Ticking noise

I started as a Honda dealer car tech back in 1975. My memory of the exact years is cloudy but I do remember this.
Might be in the 90s. Honda started recommending a lighter grade oil in an Accord that was the same as the previous model year.
I went to the parts dept and looked up various parts that might have been changed. Part numbers for block, head, pistons, rods, main and rod bearings, crankshaft etc were all the same.

So, for the same engine they went to a thinner oil. My 2 cents.

Yes, that may be true for the Honda's, but for the 4.6 2v, 3v, 4v must use 5w/20 minimum and for the higher mileage 4.6l engines benefit using 5w/30 as do race oriented 4.6l engines. For what ever reason factory Ford fuel injectors are on the noisy side and the valve train always gets the blame lol. No offense to you Sir, hope none is taken.

What mileage is sufficient to use an oil with a viscosity of 5w30?

I have a 2006 5.4l with 195,000 miles on it. I have always used 5w20 and the engine still makes the same sounds it did 100,000 miles ago. A well cared for engine does not require a change in oil weight.

In my opinion, it isn't the change in the parts of the engine. It is the change in composition of the oil.
