Can anyone direct me to vid or instructions on install of 2017 third brake light? The car wash tore the lens off mine and the only thing I have been able to find on install of a new one is earlier than 2017. The old unit is still there without the lens. I need instructions of how the old one come out to install a new one. Thanks for any help.

This seems to be a common problem. I had the same issue yesterday. I have been trying to find instructions that details the procedure to replace it. I see nothing describing how to remove the interior panel so I can access the fasteners and clips for the spoiler. Any help would be much appreciated.

Is there that much of a difference between a 2016 and 2017?

Peter

Had mine come off in car wash also (2016 MKX). Obtained the part from Ford dealership and had it replaced at a Lincoln dealership service ($182.00 for about 2 hrs labor). No way I was gonna try and replace it myself.

Here's the procedure for a 2015. I can't say they're the same or widely different but you could compare yours with this procedure and see what differences exist. (Spoiler removal is for 2018, but others should be simular).

Simple actually. Just remove the back end of the car ..... (who's the idiot that designed this stuff?)
Dude, I can appreciate everything you just explained. I'm calling it a night now, but your video helped me understand that I'm not crazy. I have been trying to get the side piece off. I removed the two bolts and now I can't get it to separate from the spoiler. I have the plastic clip removal tools and have tried running the up the seam between the spoiler and the side piece and still can't get the side piece to separate from the spoiler. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the club! Trying to find the cost to have it done?

I called a Lincoln dealer today for 2018 MKX 3rd brake lens but they claim you can only get the whole unit replacement for $800 +/- and labor between $75 to $400 depending on setup. So I have to assume mine is $400 naturally.
I found aftermarket replacements for $142 +/- on tascaparts.com but still have to either take a day off to install or pay ?? $400??
One vid shows partial instructions but the guy said it was 5 hours to figure it out and still had to put it all back together.
I have 2 vehicles and both are MKX s with no 3rd brk lens. Both within a week of each other after a visit for service at local Ford dealer with a FREE wash. Not too free now.

That happened to me in June. Ordered the replacement part from Ford dealer ($200.00 ish). Took it to local Lincoln dealer service dept and it cost me $180 to have it replaced. Ford dealer service said they couldn't or didn't know how to replace. BTW, I believe that tascaparts.com are OEM parts. Good Luck.

Yes, that's correct. I purchased the part from Ford dealership but the Tasca website would suit as well. I bought from the dealership to insure there wouldn't be any discussion about part fitment/application.

Only $200 vs $800??
Nice to see I'm in good company. The same exact thing happened to my 2017 MKX yesterday at the car wash.

Could someone please tell me if just the missing lens can be replaced or do I have to buy the entire light assembly?

What will the light cost over the Lincoln parts counter?
if you ask dealer they don’t sell just the lens. I spoke with my company mechanic shop and he told me about salvage yards that will sell the light assembly cheap and In some cases will remove the lens and sell them cheap. Im waiting to find out. There are a lot of veh’s sold with this same issue!
Where are the consumer advocates when u need them.

When buying parts to install yourself or have the dealer install, the most expensive place to buy from is the dealership. Sites like Tasca Factory OEM Auto Parts & Accessories | TascaParts.com and Levittown Genuine Ford Parts Dealer Online | Levittown Ford Parts sell OEM parts at a much lower price. Just remember shipping costs are added.

I ended up at my Ford dealer and after explaining that it happened to both of my 2018 MKX’s the service writer looked for parts in their car wash gone for 20 minutes?? Came back with nothing. (Both vehicles were there within a week for services before I noticed lens missing) I think he knew their wash caused it but I had no direct evidence so he called to parts to order the new units $209 each and said they would install free. I figured that’s $100 more than me buying 2 on line and it would be guaranteed to work.
I d k I guess I’m getting lazy but at least it’ll be done. I know I’ll be avoiding car wash going forward.

OMG - I was going to replace this light myself, but not after watching this video! What a nightmare! Off the dealer next, let someone else handle this mess.
