so about a month ago, a buddy of mine and I, replaced the OEM Intake on my 2003 town car (because there was a leak from a blown seal) and from fear of the intake itself being cracked I picked up the whole Dorman Intake kit with the gasket as well.
The OEM intake has a cover/shield underneath it made out of foam and molded plastic. But when we took it out, it completely fell apart because the plastic was too brittle.
The Dorman replacement intake does not have the shield, and the vendor stated they don't make or carry the shield. Ive searched on crownvic.net and other panther forums, but haven't found a clear answer.
Is the cover/shield needed?
What is the part number for a replacement?
I cant wait for spring. Were gonna rip it out again and put an OEM one back in.
Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
About my MPG, I know a lot of things affect it. But I dropped from avg 18-20 MPG to about 13-15. My instinct says its the intake, but as of now I am running low on patience trying to figure this out.
