Hello Forum

The car is a Continental 2019 year model.
I am suddenly stuck with the panoramic sunshade, it is the sunshade not the glass that is stuck shut. The front moves back when pressing the button, but it does not roll up in the back.

Does anyone know of this issue?

Is there a motor at the rear, or is it a loaded roller on springs, or how does it work?

I would be very greatful for any advice

Sam,
There are some posts on this forum regarding this problem. You will have to search for them.

I have a manual and will look at it later. I will post any information I can find later today.

I am in the southwest of the US and it is 8:00 am now

When I was looking for a Continental I drove one that had the problem your car has.

Hello Richard
Thanks for your reply, I will do another search.
The manual would be great to have.
I guess I need a new sunshade and replace the whole thing.
Thanks!

Hi Samvil. If you haven’t already done so, you can download the PDF version of your Owners Manual here:

Good luck.

Hello Sam,
It has taken me a while to find the sunshade in the factory Service Manual (disc). It is called the 'Shield'. (That made it hard to find in the manual).

I found very little about it. Yes, it is activated by and electric motor.
I did not see an exploded view to see how it was built. There is textual information explaining how it is supposed to work. I will look some more to understand it better. I will post again.

I would like to know more about this and other components on my car in case my car has problems someday. It looks like us owners are on our own with some issues.

Sam,
I found the sun Shield section. How to remove and replace it. There are drawings and instructions.
The motor drives a cable mechanism to roll out and roll up the cloth sun shield. The sun shield material is on a roller and is under tension.

There is a post in the Nautilus/MKX section on this forum that is about the adhesive melting and letting go of its sunshield.

You mentioned replacing your sun shield if needed. It is doable if you can buy a new sun shield. Maybe yours could be repaired?

Here is what is required for our Continentals:
Remove the roof glass opening panel
Remove the headliner and front seats
Remove the sun shield assembly
Replace/repair sun shield
After reassembly initialize the operation of the roof panel and sun shield.

Sam,
I found a Ford Parts site that says they have new Sun Shade shields.
What color is yours?
Mine is ebony GD9Z-54519A02-BD ebony @ $438.95
I can give you a part number if you need it.
