Another downside to Costco is that if you buy the tires with your membership card they are iffy about honoring the warranty for someone else.

Hi HS. In the past, Costco did not work with tire warranties for any tire/tires not purchased from Costco. They would only process warranty claims for tires purchased from Costco.
If you found a Costco tire shop which honored a warranty for a tire/tires not purchased from a Costco store, you may have been lucky.

I will double check tomorrow or Monday when they are open again.

Hi HS. Oh yes. We are discussing the same situations and agree (just to make it clear). In that case, since Costco is a members only shopping club, when the Costco member/cardholder who originally purchased the tires is not present, there will often be difficulties, since again, technically, only the member/card holder is considered a legitimate patron of the store.

As an example: My wife's brother was a Costco employee, so she has a family membership. But only the cardholder/member can shop. Therefore, I can not go in and shop without her (even with her card), because the cashiers will check the photo on the card, and she certainly does not look like me...
The tire shop is actually more lenient than the warehouse store section. I have brought my car in for a flat repair and they serviced it without my wife being with me. But as you have experienced, sometimes it can be problematic.

So we must shop together, even though we are married. If we buy tires, she must be with me at the time. I can get them serviced afterwards without her, but the store we use is lenient and knows me by now.

Hi karnog. just in case you were not aware...You can avoid that issue by using a Tire Rack "Preferred Installer". If you look through the Tire Rack site, you can find their list of "Preferred Installers". There are thousands. I have at least a dozen in my area. One will almost certainly be listed in your area code. The prices for mounting/balancing/installation etc. are individually listed for each shop. Tire Rack will deliver the tires to your preferred shop and you will be notified when they arrive, so you can set up an appointment for installation. So you don't have to lug 4 tires around to a tire shop.

Personally, I use Costco for my tires. Prices are excellent, as good as or slightly better than Tire Rack. You get an included Road Hazard Warranty along with free balancing, rotations, flat repairs etc., for the life of the tires, etc.
However, two caveats:
First, you need to be a Costco member, so it is not for everyone.
Second...Their selection is far more limited than The Tire Rack. If I recall correctly, they only carry, Michelin, Bridgestone, Goodyear and I believe BF Goodrich. Someone will correct me if I missed anything.

Thanks, I'll look into them, although they may be hard to find. There are no Discount Tire stores around here and I couldn't find that tire in stock at any other local shops.

Store exclusive means you won't find them anywhere else...
