So we will be buying a 2023 Aviator out of state and shipped to us via enclosed carrier. The dealer is trying to sell me on Simoniz GlassCoat for $895 and I am skeptical to say the least. Generally I do not buy any extras when purchasing a car, but when I looked into Simoniz, it does seem interesting.

Having said that, the price is not cheap. Is this worth it or just pass and get the car delivered?

Thoughts?

Anything dealers are offering, i generally don't want unless i know the going prices and done my research on the offered product, AND i get it at dealer cost. Otherwise i get stuff done myself. But then i usually dont stick a lot of money in new vehicles for 2 reasons. 1) I dont know how long i'll be keeping it in case it's a problamatic vehicle (# 28 now) and i'll be trading before warranty is over, or sooner. 2) I dont tend to keep them very long anyways since i seldom end up with a problem free vehicle and hate wasting money. I do however get mud flaps on them all living down a gravel road and window tint on front doors some times, depending if the vehicle is for me or my wifes. She dont like tint.

That is what I was thinking and will likely pass on this as I do to trust detailing at a dealership. I am skeptical of a dealership doing anything to the car inside or out as an "added protection".

Good move. Everything they offer is to generate more profit. What i get from MY dealer, i get at his cost, in addition to free stuff. Getting PPF put on my wifes new Aviator for free today or tomorrow and will take possession of it in couple days. I always get free stuff with my purchases. Always!

Hi iceman. I would also advise turning down that dealer extra. And that generally applies to most Dealer add-ons.

There are a lot of variables to take into consideration when considering having a ceramic coating treatment applied to your vehicle (at all). Some of which Pete mentioned above. It is not always worth it, and if you are a person who enjoys washing/waxing/detailing your own vehicle (as I do), then it really is not necessary in many ownership cases.

Hope you get your new Aviator soon and good luck. 🍻

Thanks for the advice. I did not add that or any dealer options when signing tonight (DocuSign since needing to ship from MA to TX)

This just doesn't pass the "smell test." Some of these dealers think that, if a person buys a Lincoln, that they have money to burn. There is no service that a dealership can perform that will be better quality or more reasonably priced than you can get locally. They probably don't do the work themselves, but use a third party detailer. Even if one were to agree to that service, what would the recourse be if there were problems with the application and/or a section needed to be redone?

I bought the Simoniz GlassCoat for $895 application for my new 22 Reserve and so far am very pleased with it.
I'm a car nut from the 60's, nothing like a great wax job a few times each year and then use a spray on wax (Turtlewax) every time I wash it.
I love Simoniz products and have used them for over 60 years on all my cars. I feel this application gives me a great base coat that I can only add to. I also found very good
evaluations on it when I did an internet search.
