Should I replace for $2,100 the transmission in my 2005 Towncar with 150,000 miles? The transmission has gone totally out. The replacement would be a used transmission with 80,000 miles. It comes with a 12,000 mile/12 month warranty. Besides this, the car seems to be doing well. Except it doesn't get very good gas mileage: but I figure that is normal! (And it always says to change the oil. I did just change the oil. And it's never been low And it said to change the oil when I bought it and I had a shop run all codes, and we went through them and concluded it was nothing we had to act on.)
I bought the Towncar in March. The only other problem: I had to replace a power steering switch that had gone out.

Hi @jcole100 ,

If you have a Town Car, your post will probably be seen by more people with specific experience with Town Cars if you post in that sub-forum instead of the Continental/CTC forum.

I recently replaced the transmission on my TownCar with a remanufactured one that cost $2100 for the transmission and $800 install for a total of $2900. If I step in your shoes and the rest of the car is in good shape, I would go the remanufactured route instead of used even though the price is higher. But remanufactured is much more likely to last than a used transmission, and the engines on these Cars do tend to go a long time.

Thanks for your kind reply and thoughts! I just re-posted in what I now hope is the correct forum.
