What exactly needs to be done that costs so much for a sunshade?

How do I disconnect it?
I will replace but in the mean time.

I have a 2017 Lincoln continental reserve and every time I put my car in reverse the rear sunshade make a clicking sound as long as it is in reverse.

The rear sunshade lacks a limit switch and is instead controlled by an overcurrent mechanism. When this overcurrent is detected, the shade stops moving, regardless of whether it is moving up or down. When the vehicle is placed in reverse, a signal is sent to the control module to lower the shade as the vehicle backs up. This action applies torque to the shade because, once again, there is no limit switch. The control module must detect an overcurrent to stop the shade, and over time, some plastic components between the motor and the shade may wear down. I plan to repair mine this summer by replacing the worn-out parts. Once it is repaired, I will disconnect the wire from the reverse signal on the control module, which is located in the right rear corner of the vehicle chassis. This modification will significantly extend the lifespan of the shade. The module has four wires: blue and white, violet, black and yellow, and brown and yellow. You must cut the blue and white wire.

are you saying that every time the vehicle is put in R (reverse) to back up it puts the back window shade down on it’s own to clear the window for visibility?

if that’s the case, then that explains the excessive wear-and should have an override from factory to keep it up. Lincoln failed on that one.

The shade says down unless you raise it manually from a switch up on the upper console next to the sunroof and interior shade switches. It automatically lowers when you but the car in reverse. I have a 2017 Continental that it also failed in, of course out of warranty and a couple of grand later have a new one, I used mine a lot to keep sun out while parked at work. I kept the faulty original, it's in my garage and haven't spent the time to dive into yet to discover why the gears failed and what material they're made of.

This just started happening to my 2018 Continental. In my case, it's still under full extended warranty. But guess what - the part is "back-ordered" with no projected date. They won't disconnect it under the warranty, only replace it. My guess is that it is made out of the country.

I have a 2015 Lincoln MKS. Its rear window sunshade stops half way up. I try to press the button again (it only has one button) to move it back down, but it takes a bunch of presses and sometimes holding my finger on it and twisting my hand back while the pressure is still on the switch, and finally it goes back down. It comes up in the first place because someone accidently hits the button, which is located in the small sliding slot where the cigarette lighter is located. I'd like to just shut off the button and keep the thing from ever getting triggered to go up (where it stops at the 1/2 point). Is there an easy way to get to that little switch in the center console?

I have same problem. How do you disconnect it?
