Good evening everyone and Happy Labor Day

I need to dye my front center armrest and I've obtained the kit from autoleatherdye.com.

As opposed to taping and papering the entire area, I was wondering if there is an easy way to remove the armrest lid. I have not been able to find any videos or threads pertaining to this.

Thank you very much in advance

Hi BC52. I am having the console lid in my MKZ replaced under warranty. I will be able to let you know more when the part arrives and it is completed.

However, I did ask what the job entails when I brought my car in for them to look at it. The Service Advisor and Tech said the side trim of the console needs to be removed in order to get to the interior console trim fasteners, in order to remove that trim, in order to access the fasteners that hold the hinges, in order to remove the old lid and install the new one.

To be honest, if I was dying mine, I would choose to mask and tape everything off, instead of removing it. It will be much easier and you will not need to worry about breaking or damaging anything. If the Dealer damages anything on mine while doing the job, the responsibility will be theirs (and they are very good). However, if you damage anything yourself, it will be your responsibility to replace it out of your own pocket.

Let us know how you make out and good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Ah- thank you and good advice - I will mask and tape or have a pro do it ! Good luck with yours!

Just as a follow up everyone...

I ordered my leather dye kit and began the process to re-dye my armrest and some trim

As someone who never did anything dye or paint related, it came out great!

If anyone wants to know more, please feel free to post! Have a worn driver seat area I want to tackle next

Take care
