Hello,

I am having an issue with the pull handle on 2 of my Town Cars (and by pull handle I mean the leather wrapped grab handle on the very top of the door....not the plastic handle that physically opens and unlatches the door). On the pull handle, either one or both of the screws have pulled completely out of the door panel and will not longer tighten back into it.

I wanted to see if anyone on here has had any experience with a good solid way of fixing these before I started anything myself. I figured this would be a common issue with these cars but I haven’t found any forums on it specifically.

I was thinking I could possibly plastic weld something on the back of the hole to maybe get some more threads of the screw into it to tighten it down.

I’ve attached some picture of my door. If anyone has had any luck with this, let me know. I am very eager to get this fixed correctly.

Commenting to follow the thread. I, too, am having assist handle problems. One screw is loose on my drivers side door. Ive thought mabye an anchor might work, not sure.

I am having this same exact issue. It's tough to fight a car door with no handle in the wind! None of the local salvage yards have any doors for any town cars, so I'm not sure what else to do...it obviously isn't worth taking to a repair shop, but it does make me want to get rid of this car. Did you get any solutions for yours?

Have you by chance taken the door off and examined it? I wonder if you could put a nut on the end of the screw or something.

I'm thinking take the panel off and see what it was screwed into and mcGyver some sort of fastener/washer assembly. Obviously you are not going to find new to fix/replace the issue so it will take some backyard engineering to solve.

Plenty of door panels On Ebay. lol. was just looking for the little plastic thing that covers the screw behind the handle and saw lots of panels. I had this issue on one of mine and don't remember what the fix was. I'm thinking you'll need to fit something in there for the screw to screw in to and catch.

Bump

I'm having the same issue as OP, am considering using gorilla glue/super glu on the part of the handle that no longer stays attached to the door panel. My question is, would gluing the pull handle onto the panel cause problems when/if the interior door panel needs to be removed in the future?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Pretty sure the answer is no.
The handle is bolted to the panel and the panel is fastened to the door in multiple places.

With that said it is doubtful any glue will hold over a long time.

Thanks for the reply, did you mean no as "should not try gluing", or no as "will not cause issues in the future"?

A glue will not hold a door pull handle to the door panel/door.

Ok, thank you for the info.
