Power for camera and/or radar detector

I actually have two of them now as I just bought a second for my truck with the sale, vet discount and a CC cash back bonus. I couldn't resist 3 separate discounts that were stackable. I had been running a Redline 360c in there but wanted the camera and prefer the front mute button. So, the Redline will be moved over to my old car...

I never tried the Blendmount but have heard they are excellent. These new detectors come with such good suction mounts that I haven't experimented yet...
I love mine and Blendmount is an excellent company to deal with. I’m in my 4th Blendmount unit for different vehicles that go back almost 9 years.

Here is an attempt at detailing how to tap into your day/night mirror power source to install a dashcam or radar detector.

First, pull off the housing cover for the electronics associated with the interior mirror. Put a thumb underneath a corner and pull down. There are 4 snaps that hold it up.

Do the same on the other side and it will pop loose.

Once it drops, pull it free and the wiring is exposed.

Now, unplug the mirror wiring connector. There is a catch towards the back right side. Press the catch and pull the connector out toward the windshield. This will give you easier access to install your wire taps.

Using tap snaps (the ones I use were a bit on the large size, but they work) and tap into the black (negative) and white (positive) connecting your 12volt to 5volt transformer. Slide the mirror connector back into place (make sure it snaps back in).

You can tuck the transformer in underneath the edge of the headliner. Snap the cover back into place and plug your dashcam/radar detector in.

The power is supplied to the device when the ignition is on.

Works like a charm.

I did the same a few years ago to my wife's Edge and my 5 series BMW.

Enjoy!

Sharbot,

I am ready to take the plunge and buy a new Radar Detector.

Going with the Valentine1 Gen2 as it's rated the best

Your directions make it look fairly easy to tap into the rearview mirror power

This is what BLENDMOUNT is selling as an accessory. It contains all the wires. Not sure if a transformer is needed for this.

Your opinion? Should this work?

If the Valentine takes 12v then you should be good to go.

Thanks, Sharbotcom and Heywardjr

Should be a few weeks till I get everything. If I have issues connecting to the mirror, I'll post in this thread for help.

You guys are the best. Appreciate the help

That will work! I’ve used these for over 8 years. Let me know the year and model and I can probably tell you which wire is positive. I used to have pics on here for that

The vehicle is a 2022 Corsair GT. The radar detector will probably be the Valentine1 Gen2 or the Uniden R7 or R8. I am exploring several models but most likely it will be the Valentine1

Mine is a 2022 Corsair Standard. I’ll take a pic of the back of mine. I had to get the longer version of the cable using the Mirror Stalk mount from the same company cause the cable wasn’t long enough. I ended up with the 20” long to make sure I had enough length. Stuffed the rest in the clamshell on the windshield. The guys up there are nice and friendly and can give you some good info if you ask. Customer service is A#1 with these guys.

Thanks for the help. Look forward to the pic. Should I get a different kit with a 20" cable? See link in above post that I was about to purchase.

15" should be ok. Make sure you talk to them and let them know the issues. Ask if you can return the 15 for a 20 if need be. I'll go check the length of mine here in a little while and get back to you.

Just beware, the V1G2 doesn't have onboard

15" is plenty and 12" would really be enough. Remember with the V1... you need to have your phone paired all the time to have a database. If it were me, I'd go with an R8 or Redline 360c. I have three Escort products in my stable and am very happy. Redline 360c in the GTO and a MaxCam 360c in our two daily drivers. We really like the MaxCam units as they are a great all in one...

Yeah, I prefer Escort by far. I have a Redline and it works flawlessly.

Okay. I will have to put some thought into the Escort. It's a $300 difference at least over the V1 Gen 2. I have to see what the upsides are.

Unfortunately, for V1 integration I don't have an android and won't spend the money to buy a tablet to run the JBV1 app.

So, I'll consider if the Escort has features above and beyond the Valentine that warrant the extra expense.

Thanks, guys.

EDIT: Oh, I see that it has an integrated dash cam. Not sure I need that. I'd rather put the money into the best radar detector out there.

I’m running the Escort Max 360c with the M1 camera. All of my equipment is a little older. Retired now and living off of single income. It sucks! Not the detector though, love it

The Redline 360c is not the one with the dash cam. That's the MaxCam 360c. I have both and like both. Escort often has coupons codes available and also has discounts for veterans etc. if you qualify.
