Power for camera and/or radar detector

This is absolutely great! I just need to get the "balls" to actually try this.

Though I am somewhat electronically "savvy" this is new territory for me.

So, I have a Valentine 1.

As far as the transformer is concerned I wonder if this is the same thing

Also, any recommendations on smaller tap snaps? Have never used those before.

Look at BlendMounts with their mirror tap. I have used their products for years on my Escort along with their mirror bracketry, works like a charm. Just got my NEW mirror tap for my new car. Mine was 6” and have to go longer due to logistics on the new car. I’ll post pics later tonight when I’m through

This won’t go through some of the things already mentioned earlier but I’ll show you the MirrorTap product and my hookup to my Escort. First pic is the cable to hook to Escort. 848B3CE5-549F-460F-97E0-6FDBCAD5069D.jpegB9675128-58DD-4A7B-89E6-7C0C2BD4C678.jpegEF8EFD89-E863-497A-AB65-998CEBE4A2DF.jpeg

The ProClip is an interesting attachment. Built mine. $35 is not a bad price.

However, it's the cord coming out of the slide drawer that bothers me.

I'd like to keep that drawer closed as much as possible as at night, there's a really nice logo shining upon it. I can easily just charge and stow my phone in there with that drawer lid closed. I don't think you can run a wire out of that drawer and close it.

And, yes, I know the vehicle has a wireless charger in the armrest storage area. However, I am an audiophile and I need my phone wired to provide the best audio signal to the vehicle's outstanding stereo system.

NJRonbo, I’m the same plus it reads my text messages, etc. I keep mine slide drawer open pretty much all the time and you are correct, it won’t close with the cable coming out.

NJRonbo, I have the answer. I got a CD player designed for the Corsair. It fits in the glove box.

While looking at things, I discovered that I could pull the right side trim where the nice leather stripe is on both sides along where your though would be. Hard to describe. That piece is held in by simple clips that allow you to pull that piece away from the plastic structure around the hidden box where the USB ports are. You can then put your cable in that channel behind the panel you pull back. I just finished my CD player project and the cord comes into the box through a hole I drilled into the plastic box. BE CAREFUL when drilling as my drill did not quite stop spinning when I pulled away and it nicked the leather trim. I had to go to Lincoln to get a replacement of that strip. It cost $440 but I used 70,000 Lincoln points to reduce it to $140. That felt better using points! So, be careful when drilling and keep a protector piece of metal or plastic or even cardboard just to protect that leather while running the cable.

Well, I got the right parts and within 10 minutes I had power for my radar detector! Awesome! Thanks again for posting. Was so darn easy to do with those wires that poke into the car wiring. Was simple to do.

Yes, incredibly easy and I would have never known had it not been for this great forum. Too bad Lincoln has hidden the fuse box to make it impossible to reach. I shudder to think if I blow a fuse what I'm going to do other than go back to the dealer. I have my Escort radar detector hooked under the mirror and that plugs into the mirror power. I then have my webcam cameras (front and rear) plugged into the ODBII port for power. All works great and so simple to do.

I was able to easily plug into that mirror wiring to power my radar detector. I found a great mounting bracket for the detector off Amazon and also found the little wires to tap into the power. It works flawlessly. Highly recommend this route versus trying to get to the actual passenger compartment fuse panel.

You are right! If your radar detector is 12 volt then tap directly -no need for the 5 volt step-down transformer.
Are there any 12v dashcams? Do you have a link to the transformer? Thanks.

I went with a combo unit. Escort MaxCam 360C. Great detector and decent dash cam built in. Currently on sale for $100 off but still quite expensive at $750. But free shipping and if you are a vet, another 10% off. One 12v wire to power it with the mirror tap mentioned earlier in the thread...

It’s what I have and works great, however, I did get the mirror mount so everything mounts to the mirror stalk

I actually have two of them now as I just bought a second for my truck with the sale, vet discount and a CC cash back bonus. I couldn't resist 3 separate discounts that were stackable. I had been running a Redline 360c in there but wanted the camera and prefer the front mute button. So, the Redline will be moved over to my old car...

I never tried the Blendmount but have heard they are excellent. These new detectors come with such good suction mounts that I haven't experimented yet...

I used the above process to connect my radar detector easily using these cool wires I got off Amazon. Easy as pie connecting into the wires behind the mirror. Not hard at all as the wires have small pins that slide into the wire connectors behind the mirror. Works great.
