hi, its my first post as I recently acquired a 2002 Lincoln Town Car Cartier L.
My trunk lid for some reason was "pulled away" from the rear window and thus was making contact with the tail light and broke them.
So I have to mess with the hinge. I need to have a shot from the top as how the lid was positioned relative to the surroundings like the distance to the tail light, including how far away it is from the rear window when closed.

Thank you very much for your help.

I had the same problem with my wife's 2002 Cartier, but only on the right side. When the lid was closed, it overlapped the tail light by about 1/4". I don't have the car any more, so I can't take a picture and show you how it was fixed, but I do remember the method of how it was fixed. I loosened the bolts that held the trunk lid to the hinges, but there was not enough adjustment to move the lid forwards off of the tail light. I showed it to a friend of mine who owned a body shop and he fixed it in 2 minutes--He had seen this problem before. He said that someone probably overloaded the trunk (which is hard to do with that trunk), and when they closed the lid, the hinge hit something and they bent the hinge downward which extends the lid rearwards. His fix was to take a 5/8" deep socket (which was about 3" tall), and place it between the hinge arm and the rear shelf and push the lid upwards, bending the hinge back into the proper shape, which moved the lid forwards.

That's about the best way I can describe his fix. Let us know if you have success with this method.

it is indeed the problem you described. Sadly, the horizontal beam(or rod) was twisted a little and the connecting point of the hinge to the rod was worn. So I need to replace the hinge to get it done. And the hinge was a discontinued part. ah!
