My wife found a hole in one our running boards. Clearly something hit it but what, idk. It could've been at the tire shop (what im leaning towards) or the car wash. What should my next steps be? I want to get it fixed, but i dnt want to pay a 500 deductible for a hole in the running board. Also, I do t think either the tire shop or car wash will take responsibility for it since its been a couple of days.

You are not sure if the tire shop or car wash was responsible.
In addition, it could have been from debris that was driven over.
Because the cause is not very clear, pretty sure other entities are not going to take responsibility.

Where is this? RR or LF

Any idea of the cost to repair? That is where I would start first, get an estimate. Then make a decision as to who will fix it and who will pay.

I went to both the same day so its kinda impossible to determine that and my wife has been driving it so you could be right that something was thrown into it, though I cant see anything being able to be able to hit it that hard. I probably will have to go to a collision shop and get an estimate.

Im just so pissed, only had the thing for a month and a hlf and already dinged up.

Do you have Comprehensive coverage with your auto insurance? If not, I would not file a claim. Not only would a deductible apply but your rates could increase. Even if they say it won't increase your rates now, you will be scored as a higher risk in the future, causing possible future higher rates later.

I do have comprehensive insurance bUt ill call to see what they can do for me if anything.

Shame, I exchanged the tires to fix that issue just to end up with an even more expensive issue.

Somebody lifted the car without inactivating running boards or leaving them enough room to open, then opened a door, running board extended and hit whatever was supporting the car (lift or jack). Based on the location and the character of the damage, I pretty much guarantee you that that's what happened. Moreover, I'm pretty sure they knew that they caused this damage and decided that they can get away with it (and they did, it seems).

And im mad a myself for letting em...

Comprehensive generally covers 'non-collision' damages. I think your comprehensive coverage should cover the damages but you may have a deductible that applies.

Thinking about it more, it happened at the car wash...

PSA: Don't drop your running boards before going in a push car wash in a 22+ navigator. My whole running board now has a clean scratch the while way and the back panel is now peeled off. I used to drop the running boards on my 20 nav and 18 expy to keep the mechanisms clean, I guess the 22s boards dnt go down as low. I told the car wash now waiting to hear back from corporate. I think ima go back to hand washing my cars again.

Interesting, my 2nd Gen Navigator does not deploy the running boards unless the door is open.
Opening the door during a car wash is not prudent.

I guess later years work differently.
And I only hand wash.

You can lower them in the settings, my 09 was able to do this as well.
