Paint Chip

I just noticed a small paint chip in the rear bumper on the passenger side. It is located right where the bumper and rear quarter panel attach. This area was not hit with a door or any other object since the surrounding area is fine. The area missing the paint is small and the black plastic bumper is showing. Anyone have any paint chipping in this area? Wonder if the rear bumper is flexing and hitting the steel quarter panel. Probably just needs to be touched up but didn't want to attempt it myself since the car is new.

Show it to your dealer but most likely they will tell you to get some touchup paint and do it yourself. The paint code is inside the driver door at the top of the manufacturing label.

That is probably what I will end up doing. The paint code is LG - Lustrous Gray. Went to two dealers and both don't have it in stock. Just ordered it from an on-line parts site at a discount. Just thought it was in a strange location where nothing could really hit it.

Well it's my turn. I just scrapped the wheel on the Belgium block curb. Not terrible damage thank you. I think I just need some black paint. How can I get the paint color for the black 22" Jet Package wheel ?

Although I love the Nautilus, I do fuss to people sometimes that the paint is paper thin. I tried to touch up two small chips in the front of the hood. The primer is a light color so on a black car a chip really shows up even if it's small. End result it that the chips don't show up so much now to a casual observer but if you look closely you can see what a crap job I did. I would rate my paint work and the end result much like the buckeye game today ( 8-30-25) against Texas. I got the desired outcome, but the method wasn't pretty i.e. the bucks beat Texas but it's clear the team needs a lot of work. The Defense was stout though, I guess that's good considering it was the first game of the 2025 season.

I have done paint repair before but I was never "good" at it. I guess it's a skill that does not improve with time.

To say the paint is paper thin on the Nautilus is an insult to paper. There is like no room to even fill the color, let alone the clear.

What I did was fill the chip,wetsand with like 5000 grit, and buff with Scratch X on a drill-driven buffing pad. Sometimes even that ends up removing the fill, and I had to start over….

What worked well was filling, and then quickly lightly wipe with a paper towel wetted with rubbing alcohol. That removed the overfill over the edges of the chip and then I was able to buff with ScratchX and drill/buffer. I was able to get the chips invisible on my wife’s dark diamond metallic red Nautilus.

The key is a light touch!

In both cases I don’t use the clear topping…there’s just no room for it.
