My Lincoln
2022 Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring
For a year now, we've been using the charger supplied by Lincoln attached to a 220v outlet without a single issue. This is the charger we have ...

A couple of days ago, I noticed the locking mechanism no linger felt "right" when plugging in. Looks like the little clip at the top of the connector that plugs into the car has broken off. Functionally it's working fine, and since both the charger and the car are in the garage there's no chance for rain to leak in, etc. Therefore, I'm not in a huge hurry to find a replacement.

Since I doubt I could claim this as a "warranty" item, I've been looking at alternatives. A replacement charger from Ford Parts is about $400 (before any discounts).

Was wondering if anyone has had en experience with any of the many similar home EV chargers on Amazon? A couple mention a wifi capability which would be nice since the "your car is charged" notification on the Lincoln Way app is not very reliable!!

Thanks in advance!!

Ken

If you are in the 4yr/50k mile basic warranty period I would put in the warranty claim. Since the vehicle is a PHEV and the charger was supplied when you bought the vehicle, and their warranty indicates bumper to bumper coverage, can't hurt to try.

If the latch on one of your doors broke, you would expect it to be covered. The charge cable is no different. It should be replaced under warranty. Let us know how it goes.

I agree with others, I would definitely try. Others have received a newer version when the earlier style had a meltdown.

My Siemens (fairly inexpensive EVSE) is 6 years old and I have not had that latch break. I charge as much as 10 times per week using that unit. So, it has seen a lot of clicks.

I would agree that the Lincoln provided EVSE seems to have a fairly lightweight connector. Time will tell on how it survives in my garage. But, my Corsair isn't getting anywhere near the use as my van, so year for year won't be a fair comparison in my house.

The few times I've used my Lincoln supplied charger it's worked well. But if you're not too cost sensitive, I recommend my approach. I keep the Lincoln charger in it's bag in the car for use on the road (your broken one would probably be good for that) and have a hardwired Charge Point Flex for home use. A replacement for the Charge Point is less than a new Lincoln charger should it's connector break.

I have a appointment in a couple of weeks for a routine service (prior to a long car trip in March) and the dealer suggested bringing the charger in at that time, even though I sent them some pix that shows the damage. I do have it mounted on the wall and wired in full time, so doing so is a bit of a pain, but certainly not a big deal.

We'll see what they say ... I agree that I think it should be covered, but at least it is fully functional as is in case they do not.

A nice update. On my recent service the advisor & parts guy found out that since there was no external damage anywhere, they would replace my charger under warranty. Swapped out my broken one for a brand new one (wrapped in a plastic bag!!) a few days later and it's back up and running normally.

Cheers!!
