Disclaimer: No animals were hurt in the making of this film.

The other evening (at dusk) I was driving on a rural highway doing about 55mph when a deer ran out into the path of the car. I had seen it just before it ran out and I was therfore starting to brake, however the Collision Avoidance System kicked in and braked harder and jerked the steering to the left just enough to avoid the collision. Boy, did it work well!

A typical Hollywood ending. Both the driver and the deer go on their happy way. I give it two thumbs up. 👍👍

Wow, that's great. I'm surprised it steered left on its own. I know it has evasive steering assist, but my understanding was that it only assists you with additional steering torque if YOU are steering around something. I hope it wouldn't have gone into the oncoming lane if there was a car coming.

I doubt it would have steered left if incoming traffic was approaching. I'm sure i was instinctively starting to swerve left but it felt like it was doing all the work braking and steering.

Jarring I am certain, however better that then the inconvenience of repairs and returns on repairs that happen, your time, and not the least reason, the deer gets to live.
And you are so much better off not having to suffer an explosion in your face if you had hit the deer.

I had a deer hit under similar circumstances with a 5 Series BMW about 10 years ago. Both car and deer didn't fair well. That cost my insurance $17k and the deer, it's life.

I had a similar experience in my Corsair with a redlight runner. It saw the car before I did and braked/steered to the right before I did. I was thankful to have only needed a new pair of shorts that day.

My only Bambi experience would have been 1990 when I was driving an 89 240SX. I was heading home for the weekend after doing testing on Cayuga Lake, after midnight. Coming around a bend, Bambi approached the road, froze, leaped once the headlights passed their head.

The pop-up headlights kept them from coming through the windshield. A local deputy found the injured animal.

9 years later I was house hunting, early afternoon, sunny day. Returning after checking a place out, there were a half dozen deer just standing in the middle of the road. Nice house, but it got a hard pass from me 😀

I did a test drive on a P2 hybrid Friday, exactly what I'm looking for (right trim, right interior/exterior colors, only plus-ups are the color, hybrid, and the mini spare - precisely what we're seeking). Problem is it has a very noticeable vibration, very obvious if your arm is on the center console armrest. We're probably the first people who've driven it since delivery, tiny mileage on it, so hopefully it's still-overinflated-tires/tires need balancing/console attachment needs tightening or damping, easily correctable; I emailed the salesperson, suggested they do a drive with a technician and have them correct it. Another P2 hybrid, meeting our specs, is due in within about a week.

I feel that I should know this, but I don't. What is a P2?

I hit a deer in mkz and mostly pushed in front facia and dislodged the headlamp. I consider it lucky. I believe the guy ahead of us hit it first then got up again and I came upon. I was already on fast slow down since I saw him ahead but the deer disappeared and then stumbled back in road and i hit it. It wass not killed and ran off again.

Premiere 2 ( 102 package ). For a '25 I had to go to a 102, since I really want the ventilated front seats (it used to be in the P1/101 in '24). The upgraded audio will be okay, though Panoramic roof is a dislike, something which is likely a decent part of the actual cost of going to a 102 but never used by us, and digital scent/auto air refresh/... would also not be used).

In our case Premiere is overall the right trim - I'm firmly against going to the 21" or 22" wheel size (fairly cold/snowy winters, I like the 19" all weather tire availability and better protection against rim-rash due to potholes), and no interest in the adaptive suspension. I still find it weird that Lincoln didn't offer the roof rails as an option on a Premiere, as the no-panoramic-roof Premiere 101 is the only Nautilus where you can carry something on the roof (based on Lincoln's manual - the Panoramic roof means allowable loading = 0 lbs).

I see...Got it. Thanks Markfm

That's an incredible video. I live in area with deer and have never had quite such a close call. The dashcam is your own, correct? Not an inbuilt feature? Wondering if my '21 has that kind of avoidance tech. It does have lane centering steering and the evasive steering thing. I just figured though that it would as stop short as possible, attempting full braking.

Yes, I have an aftermarket dash cam (Mangoal, it has a custom fitted cowling for the Nautilus).

FYI, this (what I have also) is a Chinese dashcam of capable basic features, (not high end) but the integrated fit is fantastic. Also, it is available from different suppliers on AliExpress for significantly less. Other than the rear camera, I'm unaware of any other differences.

WOW... did you get the seat fixed? You must have pinched a big hole in the middle of it.

Also that camera quality looks good.. i have the same camera in my amazon cart and have been really considering buying it.

No pinched hole in the seat but I believe It had the seat ventilation blowers on for the rest of the trip 😜

The 24-25 Nautilus tested good for predestrian in crash tests so assume can applyt in some way to deer.
