My Lincoln
2002 lincoln ls
Hello everyone,

I’m new here and looking for my second Lincoln. My first vehicle was a 2002 Lincoln LS with the V6, which was also my very first car. Over the years I’ve shifted more into trucks and currently run a small fleet that includes a 2004 Duramax dually, a 2019 Cummins, a 2022 F-350, and a 2024 Duramax 1500.

As our family continues to grow—currently my wife and I, along with two dogs (a 100+ lb Rottweiler and a 70 lb Shepherd), and hopefully a pregnancy in the near future—we’re considering selling the 2024 Duramax that my wife currently drives and moving into a 2022+ Nautilus. We’re having some difficulty deciding on the engine option.

For those with experience, has anyone gone with the 2.0L and been happy with it, or regretted the choice? For context, her daily driving is minimal (approximately 4 km each way to one of our businesses where she works part-time). Outside of that, it’s mostly longer highway trips, such as road trips to the nearest Costco about two hours away on relatively flat roads.

Our priorities are comfort, long-term reliability, and confident drivability, as we live in a mountain town. Speed and outright power are not major concerns, but I also don’t want to feel that we should have spent extra if the upgrade is truly worthwhile. Fuel efficiency isn’t a deciding factor, as this would be replacing a diesel truck with DEF and related costs.

Any insight, ownership experiences, or long-term feedback would be greatly appreciated. I appreciate everyone’s time and will be reading through other posts on the forum as well.

Thanks in advance,
LB

I have a 2021 with 4 cyl, FWD. "Our priorities are comfort, long-term reliability, and confident drivability, as we live in a mountain town. I live in flat area, with some driving on hilly areas on long trips. The 2.0 is absolutely fine for me, and is smooth acceleratig (although loud outside when cold out and a bit of idle vibration like any 4). I put in into "S" (lower gearing) on hilly stretches, and that sees about right. But the stronger 2.7V6 is widely available too, and I cannot speak to the 4 in a highly mountainous area. You might also look for a model with paddle shifters. Mine lacks this and not all 6'ds may? It might give you finer-tuned control for hills. I have it on another car and don't use it almost ever.
The vehicle is spacious and comfortable and great on highway. It is quiet. I am not used to an SUV so it feels a bit big locally and not the softest local ride vs say a luxury sedan. It feels like a truck in a vague sense on bumps, just not as seamless as the smoothest sedans. It is smooth overall but a different feel from a sedan, esp on bumps on local roads. It is a GREAT highway cruiser.
Change the oil every 5k I'd suggest. My CPO now has around 60k miles and no issues of significance. A purge valve (minor, free under warranty) and 2 batteries (FL car, the heat probably killed it). The battery was also free just under the 4 year / 50k bumper-to-bumper warranty. I cannot speak to lasting to 200k miles. But no CVT. Direct Injection is not ideal, but use top tier gas and change oil frequently to minimize issues. The 4 cyl is improved after 2020, older ones had big coolant issues. 2021+ is fine. Some V6's had a recall (2021 I believe) with engine issues, research it if you get a 2021 or early 2022 V6. (Look at Toyota's 3.4 V6's -- no one is immune!)

FWIW, I chose this over a Lexus RX, and I own/love my Lexus sedan (LS430). The Lincoln made more sense vs the RX. Bigger (I need the cargo space), a bit simpler, a better value.
You should test drive yours and/or get a CPO and/or a manufacturer's warranty -- AND/OR, ensure it is still under the 4 year / 50k initial b2b warranty. I drove 1 with a screeching air conditioner and another where the trans did not shift well. That is a risk with used, not a reflection of this model, and used with a good history (mostly, oil changes) and say under 50k miles should be fine. I've had new /newer cars with problems too, including my Lexus when I first got it. That's why I recommend a car still under warranty (or CPO or a true Ford/Lincoln "warranty" such as premium care): as much for initial issues as anything else.

I bought and shipped mine from far away, but I had the CPO and got a video of the A/C.

Overall, it has served its purpose great. Comfortable, great visibility, fine for 300 mile trips. I'd recommend against the 21" wheels given my 20" feel stiff, but higher end may have adaptive suspension which may be a tradeoff.

Overall, try the model for yourself. It has worked well for me, generally pleased.

Thank you sir for the review. Funny enough since this post we shifted to an aviator my wife liked the size more hoping we lock the deal in today.
