Hey all, I've been wondering how difficult it'd be to update my (2012 Navigator L 5.4L V8 4x4). I love the machine, it's one of the best vehicles I've ever owned, best part, it's in great condition and runs immaculately. Only it's a little dated. The dash is boxy and plasticy, the gauges are old looking, etc.. The 2015 model is much better in my opinion. HOWEVER, I am absolutely NOT willing to trade in for a 2015 as they're no longer V8s, and they don't make them with the same beautiful brown and black interior mine has. I am keeping this vehicle forever, I'll be rebuilding the motor when the time comes. Would it be difficult to update the electronic components, dashboard, steering wheel tail lights, headlights, etc. I'm assuming there's going to be a point where I'll have to replace the computer right? If so is there a way to tell a computer from a 2015 navigator what engine it's looking for? Thanks in advance for all your responses!

After about 2010, most if not all cars use integrated circuitry. Almost every electronic board communicates with an array of other electronics. Even changing headlights with headlights with different computer programming, amp draw or ohms rating will throw codes and not work as you want. You can customize and add gizmos by running on separate, dedicated circuit, but if you try upgrading or add to existing circuitry, your Lincoln will become a zombie...Doing things like turning off by itself, turning lights, alarm etc on by itself, parasitic drains, burn modules and wiring, create fires, etc.
