LED's anyone?

You have to add resistors for the turn signals otherwise it will hyper-flash.

unless there is an electronic flasher available. Resistors are risky. They get hot, I mean very hot. You have to make sure they are mounted to metal to act as a heat sink. I try to discourage people from using resisters. I’ve seen things get burned up from improper installation of those things.

Have not heard any electronic flasher for Town Car, I've used resistors for many years on my led (front and rear) without any problems.
I'm not running my turn signals for many minutes and my resistor are mounted so they have contact with metal.
I think the LCM (light control module) is handling the turn signal (flasher).

Passing along personal experience as you are. OP is free to proceed as he desires. Only encouraging research before modifying electrical systems on any vehicle.

Hey thanks for the response. There are actually multiple ways to get the turn signals flashing properly, you can install a resistor on each light OR you can swap out your blinker relay. I'd rather pull my trim off and replace the relay as opposed to wiring and mounting four resistors... Any info as to the exact location of the relay would help. If I turn my blinker on and put my head down towards my pedals, i can hear the relay doing its think but I cannot see it...

I checked the Wiring diagrams for 2003 and I can not see any relay, I do see the Lighting control module and Multifunction switch. So I think its the LCM you hear the sound from, but I could be wrong.

You could also be very right my friend. I cannot find a blinker relay part for my car either which would support your findings. I guess I'll be wiring in some resistors... I know it's not technically "that hard" I just didn't want to do it lol, I've done the research, I understand the heat element, etc. That said is there a brand anyone would recommend?

So. I pulled a headlight to check things out after 2 months of running these LED’s. No sign of overheating any plastic parts. I apologize for stating I drilled 1/4” holes. It’s been awhile and I suffer from CRS. Lol. I drilled a 1-1/2 inch hole over the fan. Still the best LED conversion I’ve done. No scatter. No one flashing me. Attached some engine porn for kicks.
Nice engine porn and zip tube, lol. That never get old!

I apologize for what likely seems to be endless questions, but I value the knowledge of people that make mods work successfully. I'm curious as to how you secured the H7 bulbs in the hole. The factory adapter works as designed under the plate, with the stock bulb, but not with an LED replacement bulb. And, at least on my Lincoln Town Car, the 9005 doesn't really hold securely, either. There has to be something to "shim up" between the bulb and the plate that is screwed into the back of the assemblies (2 Torx screws). I thought about using these parts and playing "trial and modify" with them, courtesy of my Dremel.

I know they're for a Mazda application. Maybe fitting them and carefully grinding down the posts as necessary would help secure everything. The H7 definitely needs attention, but I'd also like to add a little security to the 9005, while I'm in there.

Wish this was as simple as the bulbs in my F-150.

I can't remember which bulb is which at this point....CRS...LOL! But, if you are referring to this one:

I shaved it down to fit under the heat sink. If you are referring to this one:

It worked just fine and I have no "looseness" with either bulb.

The turn signal and hazard flasher appears to be a field-replaceable unit within the lighting control module. Has anyone actually tried to replace one? If so, a "LED compatible" flasher unit might work, depending on what else is within that circuit of the LCM.

I would think that at least part of the benefit of retrofitting LED lamps would be the reduced power consumption. Having to put in resistors to increase power consumption, and further confuse a future owner who tries to switch back to fillament lamps would seem counter-intuitive.

While I can't confirm your suspicions here, I will say that I looked into an easy plug and play flasher relay fix but did not find anything useful.

I ended up throwing resistors on because the hyperblink was too annoying lol. I also had a fun surprise when I realized that all for of my rear tail lights function as blinkers, requiring me to install a resistor on each bulb, grrrrrrr lol.

Yep, that's the adapter I was referencing (1st picture). I didn't want to shave this down, in the event the H7 bulb was returned to the original halogen, but that piece sticking up, like a shield, seems to serve no purpose. Time to grab the Dremel...

As regards the 9005 twist-in bulb, mine does fit into the housing with the 3 tabs, but not as tight as I would expect. Even the halogen bulb isn't tight, maybe the gasket/ring on the bulb is just a bit thin. I'm accustomed to having to push in with a little force and twist, to secure the bulb and lock it in place. Thanks, my friend!

Where did you mount the resistors? Did you do both front and back turn signals?

I did front and back turn signals yes. I spliced in some extra wire to the resistors to give me some more lead to work with and used metal zip ties on the front to affix the resistors to my frame behind my headlamp assemblies.

For the rear, I pulled off my trim surrounding the trunk latch and pull down motor and tucked the resistors into the metal frame of the body where the trim panel clips in. Not saying it's the best placement of resistors but it works. The trim plastic is pretty sturdy and even if a part of the resitor touches it, can't imagine it will melt it.

Would this one be any better then my stock ones on my 01??
  • The 9007 HB5 LED headlight bulbs are 1.5x brighter than stock bulbs, with white color light allowing you to see further and clearer for safer driving
  • Save installation time: No tools needed to replace the lower profile 9007 HB5 LED bulbs. Although the factory housing has a dust cover or there is tight space on the driver side, only needs 10 minutes SEALIGHT 9007 HB5 Led Headlight Bulbs Hi/Lo Beam 12000LM 24xCSP Chips LED Conversion Kit Dual Beam Bulb 6500K White

Yes. Definitely better.

Yes. Definitely better.
Now I'm wondering if my 01 is too old?/The info says they would work with it though. Do I drill a 1/2 inch whole like the other guy in his thread did??No moisture is a good thing. I've notice several things in my 01 that are the same as they were in my 90's era Town Car's. One being the ashtray. So I'm wondering if the headlight setup is the same whereas I don't need to remove the whole unit like I did in my later model i had a while back.

I looked up this bulb. It said doesnt fit 2007 Town Car

'03-'11 headlights were different than the '98-'01s. Some bulbs are probably different as well,

There are many led’s that will work in any year Town Car for sale on eBay. Bought them for my 05 and now for my ‘10 although I don’t think they’re as good as they should be for some reason.
