My Lincoln
2002 Blackwood
I need to manually release the safety catch somehow. The yellow slide does not do anything, seems disconnected. What do I do?

A 2002 is a first gen Navigator
I have a second gen Navigator.

The secondary hood release has a yellow handle on the passenger's side. It is somewhat visible when the hood release is pulled inside the vehicle.
That yellow handle is connected to a flat piece of metal that goes to the hood latch in the center front position of the hood.
If the metal slide is disconnected from the latch, one would need to be able to slide something very sturdy to engage the end of the hood release.

I should be able to post a picture, should that help.
Coming from under the vehicle may be problematic. A lot of plastic would need to be removed.

This is a picture of the hood release latch for a 2002 Lincoln Navigator that I swiped from an eBay listing.
The bigger hook towards the top is the secondary hood catch.
There is some pushed over metal on the left side center of that hook.
That is where the release metal engages the hook.
The yellow release handle moves the flat metal that is connected to that hook.
Move the yellow handle to the left and the hook moves out of the way.

You would need to find a way to move that hook to the left as looking at the latch or standing in front of the vehicle.

I got it from the bottom after removing the splash panel and reaching up with a long screwdriver. Somehow the cable from the yellow lever had gotten unhooked. Some wd40 freed it up and it now works normally. Thanks for the help.

Glad you were able to find a solution.
I looked at my 2nd gen Navi this morning. The arrangement is very similar.
Thought about this thread.
