Surely I can't be the only one- but google is nearly void of the error message I am getting on Sync. I have a 2009 Lincoln MKX suv with the voice activated TXX SYNC system (and no, it does not say powered by Microsoft so i don't think it's that version).

Everything worked fine for several years and then Boom- one day Sync stopped working along with everything on it except the radio. No buttons work and I only see the screen in the attached picture. When I turn on the car it loads up the THX screen but then it hangs there for about 3 minutes and then finally displays the screen which reads:

FAIL SAFE MODE and below it says System Fault ... A system fault has been detected that will result in limited functionality.

I have never made any firmware changes/upgrades to the system. I never had any phone problems before - all phone types worked in my car with perfect bluetooth functionality.

I have already disconnected/reconnected the battery as some have claimed - NO Impact

I have already located fuse #3 as the owner manual shows on pg 234 - removed/re-inserted fuse -- NO impact.

I am getting ready to call the dealer (who I hope by now in 2017 will not say they've never heard of this issue before) - is there anything else i can do besides just hope the dealer can fix? I've read horror stories where the Sync system could never be repaired by the Dealer omce it died.

Is there newer system I can swap it out with? I dont want to ditch my car - other than Sync- it runs perfectly. Thx!

Why not try a master reset. (Note thar this will erase all personal data).

>Click the “Phone” button.
>Select “Settings” on the screen.
>Select “Advanced” on the right side of the screen.
>Scroll to the bottom and select “Master Reset”.
