Which one, and why?

I\'m thinking the same thing about my Jeep Liberty... The one that I haven\'t driven since February when it ate its turbo, then a piston.

Only problem is, the value is probably in the toilet b/c of Mopar being bankrupt and all.
I should have listened to that little voice in my head that was saying \"Don\'t buy any Chrysler product, they are nothing but trouble\" and gotten a Ford diesel truck. I didn\'t want (and still don\'t) a giant F250-size JUST to get the diesel, but Ford Etc won\'t put a diesel in anything smaller - it would reduce their profit margin too much for their taste. But towing with a gas engine is just STOOPID.

Prices haven\'t been affected. Trust me... I\'ve been looking for a used truck :nono: As for your Liberty, use the correct oil next time ;)

I\'ve been wanting to sell my Accord lately...I like the car, it\'s just not FUN.

Seems like a bad idea though...98, V6, leather, sunroof, only 45K miles. Gas is also back up. I just want another truck, or a Mustang, or something fast and fun. I dunno what to do.

get a smart car. FUN....Hell YES!!! Fast....not so much, but when gas hits $5/gal again, you can still drive it 70+mph on the interstate while everyone else is tooling around at 55 to save gas.....:hyper:

I\'ll pass you at 80 with the A/C on getting damn near the same gas mileage. Whatever helps you sleep at night though ;)

Diesel FTW.

Hows this for insanity - I\'m about to get my Jeep diesel back after almost 6 months of not driving it, and I\'m taking back the engine and busted parts to rebuild the other one... Which will become an engine swap for my 97 Jeep.

I just bought the Miller custom tool set for the CRD, so all I need next is a DRBIII and I\'ll be able to do everything that a \"trained\" dealer service department can do... Except I would do it right the first time.

Does that include using the right oil? :slap: ;)

You mean Mobil 1 15w40 Delvac pure synth? Sure. :slap:

But at 32 degrees after a night unplugged at less than 20 degrees... The cold oil is the only thing that could have caused the turbo failure.

ENGINE OIL - DIESEL ENGINES
Only use synthetic engine oils meeting the API Categories SL/CF and Chrysler Material Standard MS-10725. Those engine oils not meeting the viscosity and API Quality and MS-10725 requirements should not be used.

SAE VISCOSITY GRADE
The preferred engine oil is SAE 0W-40 Mobil® One Synthetic. If you can not locate SAE 0W-40 Mobil® One Synthetic, then SAE 5W-40 Mobil® One Synthetic would be acceptable.

Not neccessarily. A quick shutdown can destroy the turbo FIRST TIME. What happens is that the turbo keeps on spinning a LONG time after shutdown. However, with the engine off, there is no Oil Pressure, so the turbo spins on DRY bearings, burning them down and usually destroying the impeller shaft.

I need to look up what the Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck (the same product as Delvac synth) and see what the spec is. I thought it was 15w40, but as I have neither seen my truck nor done an oil change on it in 5 MONTHS, I can\'t say for certain. I know it isn\'t that far out of spec for the winter rating. Also, I didn\'t think that there WAS a full synth 0w that also met the CJ-4 API spec. I wouldn\'t have used one that was that far out of spec.

As far as the turbo, yea, lack of lubrication did kill it. But not having a boost gauge to inform me that the thing wasn\'t boosting anymore would have told me to cut the motor off while I was coasting, and would have saved the motor.

I\'m looking into a turbo speed sensor to verify for me that the turbo never overspeeds or does this again.
