Good morning,
Glad to be here!
I'm a long time Lincoln lover and have had my 96 Town Car Cartier for the last 9 years or so. Usually when I fill her up with gas the readout would show between 389 - 422 miles of available gas in the tank. Lately though when I fill up I am getting only a reading of 258 miles of available gas and I seem to be burning gas much quicker at about 2 miles faster than I had before. Any possible ideas as to what this can be? Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the Forum.

That is a large difference in gas usage, presumably from the computer display. Have you verified the gas mileage using a manual calculation of miles travelled and gas used between fill ups? Does your display show average mpg.

Are you driving in town more or much less highway mileage. Your car will be efficient on the highway but much less so in town where you accelerate from a stop frequently and idle more. Cold starts use a lot of fuel so short trips will drop your mileage.

Is your car running well, do you smell gas, can you fill the tank with as much gas as before? Have you checked the air filter?

Do you notice that your car slows down more quickly now than before? Could the parking brakes be damaged from rust and broken parts so there is a drag on the car?

Considering the year of the vehicle and the likely miles on it, have you checked all of the exhaust sensors? I'm not as familiar with Lincolns of that year specifically, but other vehicles with fuel injection which are reliant on proper O2 sensor readings will also get poor mileage when the sensors are not functioning optimally.
