headlight enhancement 2007 TownCar

The light spread from HID and LED is different than Halogen lamps, when you simply replace a halogen bulb with an HID or LED you will get more lumens, however the reflector you have will not properly reflect that light in the right pattern. What you will notice is that your beam will no longer have a nice clean cutoff line at the edges of the field like it does with the halogens. Not really a big deal as a driver but oncoming traffic will suffer as a result, people will constantly be flashing you thinking that your brights are on. A lot of people puff up their chest and think it's because their HIDs are making so much light that those ignorant fools in the other lane just don't understand, but it's really because the stock reflector is scattering light in the wrong way (and consequently into their eyes).

Some headlights are worse than others but if you want to do it right and not blind oncoming traffic, then you probably want to retrofit with bi-xenon projectors. Check out this forum: http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/ There is all the information you will ever need about HID etc there to help you with your project.

I put HIDs in both town cars and changed the aging DC ones in the Mark VIII to modern ACs. As copper said, an HID won't be as effective without projectors. But...if you adjust them properly you won't offend other drivers. The first HIDs were produced in reflector housings by Lincoln and Audi.

It's not that it is the reflector but the way the reflector was shaped for a halogen bulb. Mark VIIIs came stock with HID so they compensated for the extra light output. Projectors are the way to go because they have a cut off built in them. My 05 Town Car has factory HIDs and they have cut off line also. I don't know if the Town Car with halogen have a cut off but if it does and you put an HID bulb in them and it still has the cut off, you should be fine.
