Drive to Park…very scary

I appreciate your response and really wish I was doing something that caused it to go into Park automatically both times but I had both hands on the steering wheel, driving completely normal, and it literally popped into park. I wasn’t going 30 mph, thankfully. I was going 10 - 15 mph both times and yes, it did shake me pretty hard. My head whipped back n forth, and I was pretty disoriented, shocked and scared to say the least. I didn’t open my door, or brush the park/drive gears as suggested above. I loved my custom car and I’m devastated and extremely disappointed that this has happened. I didn’t do anything to make the car behave this way. It’s an unsafe car and needs to be seriously looked at so this doesn’t happen to anyone else. And I did call the dealership immediately both times and expressed to them the safety concerns and I also told them that I would not drive it until it’s fixed and I’m not being taken seriously… it’s been very frustrating. After the first incident, they assured me that nothing was wrong with my car and I reluctantly took it back. After it happened the second time, I was done. This is crazy… I will never drive that car again unless they can confirm and prove to me without a shadow of a doubt that the problem has been fixed. Huge bummer on multiple levels.
VERY sorry to hear that or to have doubted you. I guess I hoped it was user error, but by your description it clearly wasn’t. I don’t have a remedy or any advice other than to persist. I’d try another dealer AND call Lincoln and explain the issue. The old saying “squeaky wheel gets the oil” comes to mimd…be that wheel. Persist. That is not right (to say the least) And regardless of a “code” it has happened twice. Keep us posted And be safe.

Thank you for our response. I agree- it’s no secret that the new Aviators have had major electrical issues and I think this is one of them! Unfortunately, it’s a pretty major one that’s being ignored.
I don't know about the "being ignored" part. I haven't been able to find any other posts about this issue in this or the Explorer forum. Have you notified the NHTSA about this? That would be a start. Report a Safety Problem | NHTSA

Thank you- I’ve reported this to the Lincoln Concierge and have had multiple conversations with them but since they can’t find the problem, I was told that the car is ready to be picked up, which is unacceptable to me. I’m not driving that car until it’s fixed. I’ll definitely notify the NHTSA- thank you! And please let me know if you hear of this happening to anyone else!

I have a 2023 Black Label Aviator and it’s been a nightmare. I’ve had all the usual electrical recalls that everyone else has had but I was wondering if anyone else has had their Aviator suddenly go into Park while driving? I was thankful that I wasn’t going very fast and that I didn’t have my kids in the car. It’s happened to me twice and it really scared me. The dealer couldn’t duplicate the problem and therefore, couldn’t fix it. Because it didn’t throw any codes, they can’t find what to fix. The dealership told me to call corporate Lincoln concierge- which was a complete dead end. This is a major safety issue and I refuse to drive a car I don’t feel safe in.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Yes I'm my 2017 lincolin mine shifts from drive to park when I remove my seat belt even if I'm driving my car slams into park and also no help because it's a crazy problem

Is there any update on this issue? The member above had something similar but under different circumstances.

2020 Aviator which has had MANY of the glitches over the years… Earlier this summer this did happen to me twice but I wasn’t sure what happened and nothing seemed broken/alarming/coding/etc.!?
I was not driving at speed like OP but coming to a stop each time (less 5mph) to pick people up?
First time I thought as I was coasting to stop I rushed to hit the park lever too quickly and it allowed me to shift to park while wheels were technically still on last quarter roll? I was a jolt stop like OP mentioned but mine seemed lower speed than theirs. It happened one more time about a month later then no other instances since mid summer. I’ve made sure I’m carefully stopping in full and not rushing to hit park park button/lever in case that was it but it shouldn’t have been. FYI….
I’m watching this thread now in case any other updates.

Did you schedule an appointment to have this checked out? By doing so, the dealer will enter the issue into their computer and a record of the issue is saved. It will help to show a trend when stats are retrieved by the manufacturer.

Has anyone had any luck in figuring out this problem? We were driving about 70 mph on the highway and all the sudden it went into Neutral so we pulled over. Turned off the car and back on, waited a few minutes and started driving again. About 3 miles later in massive traffic it went into N and immediately into park. And made a big clunk and jerked when it stopped. We were 2 hours away from home and had to have it towed. It’s been at our local dealership for a month and they can’t figure it out. Also to point out the transmission was just replaced 3 months ago.

What year is the Aviator? Was the new transmission an OEM Ford/Lincoln unit? If it was, I believe the warranty is 3-years, unlimited mileage. Do you know if the dealership called the Ford 'hot line' to get assistance? It seems unusual for them to just let it sit there. Are they providing a loaner? Have you called and spoken to a Lincoln concierge?
