My Lincoln
2024 Nautilus
Has anyone had any problems with unlocking the vehicle with just the door handle? Mine worked for three months without any issues. My nattery died the other day and that feature oddly stopped working? I now have to use the fob to unlock..I think this os part of the KeyFree feature and iny settings that feature is on. I am puzzled. Any intel on that would be great!

I noticed unlocking differences after the vehicle went into deep sleep but came back after a drive. I wonder if there are different levels of sleep since sometimes the "main display" is ready quickly after opening the door and sometimes it takes much longer.

Could you give us a little more info?

Your first question about unlocking the vehicle . . . Did you have your key fob with you or your phone as a key?

When you say your car died, what were the circumstances? Did your unlocking issue begin right after?

Thanks for responding. The unlocking with the door handle started after my battery died while being parked overnight. I am not sure if I left an interior light on to cause the battery to die. I got a jump from AAA and after it was fully charged I got the audio back - I did not have the no seat belt fastened alarm, no radio or blue tooth and no sound of the directionals being used. It was weird. My location was off as well - weather was being displayed from a previous location as was the large screen map. I did the 10 second volume control reset which took care of the location issue. All of these issues started after the battery died. I always have my fob with me but the easy unlock using the door handle only no longer works nor does the lighted combination panel on the driver door light up upon approach unless I unlock using the fob first. The door handle unlock feature without using the fob is very handy and I hope to get it fixed without going to the dealer. I wonder if the problem has anything to do with the Lincoln app on my phone or its settings? I have never used the Phone as a Key feature. Thanks!

I'm sure a dead battery plays all kinds of havoc with the car settings. Also, I've had settings randomly switch off at times. Go to Settings > Vehicle > Locks > KeyFree, and make sure it's still toggled on. Maybe even toggle it off and then back on.

btw, Phone As A Key is a fabulous feature. I never carry a key fob anymore.

Hinckley - thank you for responding. I am finally liking my new Nautilus. I did not like it for the first two months after I bought it back in February!! You have been a big help along the way! Still a few glitches like this KeyFree thing but I will get it looked at when I bring the vehicle in for its first oil change in a few weeks. I did turn the KeyFree toggle on and off before you mentioned it but that did not work. Thanks for always responding!

I disabled the Phone as a Key after a short period but wonder if you get the key inside reminder if you try to lock the car with the phone in the car? I have left my phone in the car more than once. The fob stays in my pocket so not likely to leave that.

Yes, that is possible. You then unlock with either the key fob or the exterior keypad. Same is true for the key fob itself. You can lock it in the car and unlock with Phone As A Key or the keypad.

Hi angore. It is relatively easy to determine if the leaving a PAAK in the vehicle will be sensed.

Leave the phone in the vehicle. Lock the vehicle using the power door lock button on the inside driver’s door panel (don’t press 7/8, 9/0). Close the door.

If the vehicle senses the PAAK, it will unlock the door and give a warning beep, just as it does if we leave a key fob in the vehicle. If it allows you to close the locked door, it does not sense it.

Try that experiment with the PAAK/LincolnWay app both open and closed.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

You cannot lock the key fob in the car using the interior lock buttons. You can lock the key fob in the car using the exterior keypad.

I did the test after re-enabling permission to be nearby devices. I put phone in car, locked door using inside door lock button, then closed door. The mirrors retracted then car beeped and doors were not locked. I have nearby permission disable to prevent constant light show while walking around in garage with phone.

Hi hinckley. Yes, it is a known fact that we can’t lock the key fob in the vehicle using the interior door locks or the lock sensors on the door handles etc. Only using the simultaneous press of the 7/8-9/0 keyless entry keypad.

If you reread angore’s question and my reply, that is why I explained the simple test with the PAAK and interior lock button, in order to hopefully answer angore’s questions/concerns.

Sorry if my test explanation was confusing.

Good luck. 🍻

Have same issue with door switch not recognizing the fob after car was in a Deep Sleep mode. Can unlock and lock doors by pressing button on fob. Car at dealer today for fix and will report back.

Hopefully your issue with the Key Free featurw will not turn into the current problem that I have with the APIM module needing to be replaced. Dealer thought the two may be related. Key Free issue and then nearly two months later my two screens went dead. The interior of my beautiful Nautilus is now at the dealer with the interior totally torn apart and I will be without the vehicle for at least a week. I am thinkint much longer. I realize that they had to take apart the dash and such to fix the problem but still horrifying to see a brand new car in that state of chaos!

New to forum and after reading other posts...a member said that disconnecting the battery, then holding the brake peddle down for 20-30 seconds, and reconnecting battery...resolved the issue. My Nautilus is at the dealer for recalls 24B23, 24P08, 24P14 and this issue regarding the doors switches not recognizing the fob. I will report back on findings.

Picked up car today and this is what they said about fixing the door switch not recognizing the fob...it's back to normal now.

Does anyone know how to perform a battery monitor reset? Or is it via diagnostic tools? It seems like that would be a good task to perform after a complete battery discharge.

Hi swindler. A BMS (Battery Management System) reset can be performed via FORScan.

Alternately, the vehicle simply needs to be left locked and untouched for 8+ hours to reset the BMS.
By “untouched”, that means do not approach the vehicle with a key fob or PAAK on your person (which may wake the vehicle). Do not open or use the LincolnWay app, etc. etc.

Generally speaking though, a BMS reset only needs to be performed when the battery is replaced. Not when a dead battery has been recharged. It won’t hurt to do it, it’s just not necessary.

I’m sure others will jump in with more help and advice, so let us know how you make out and good luck.

Others have shared this…enter vehicle, turn headlights to Off, put vehicle in Full Accessory mode (NO foot on brake, hit Engine Start/Stop), wait a few seconds for everything to boot up, then within 10 seconds, perform the following…flash high-beam headlights 5 times, then pump the brakes 3 times (make sure you come completely off the pedal). If successful, the BATTERY DASH LIGHT will flash 3 times indicating that the Battery Management System (BMS)has been reset.
If not successful, hit Engine Start/Stop (NO foot on brake to shut it down) wait 5 minutes and retry.

I know this sounds very CRAZY, but it worked for me.

Good Luck

No more crazy than other programming actions I've performed. Thanks.
