Continental Reliability and Costs...

Thanks for the advice regarding the audio and seat package. I'm going to be looking for both of those options.

From the research I've done I thought the door handles were only a 2017 issue? I was specifically going to avoid the 2017 year for the door handle issues and also due to wanting the HUD tech upgrade. Is there a certain year you know for sure has the upgraded modem or are all years requiring the upgrade?

Thanks for the fuel filter advice. Would you recommend replacement with oil changes? I also know the 3.0 requires periodic walnut blasting on the intake manifold but is there an established time or mileage that's been agreed on to get this done?

I honestly might be keeping this car for even longer than 10 years if vehicles-as-a-service becomes the standard. I'll be d***** if I ever have to pay $15 a month for a remote start or seat warmers. So long story short I would love to establish the perfect maintenance schedule to make sure it lasts for as long as I want to own it.

Hi lncln Own. silverydragon has given you good advice.

Fuel filter change requirement for the 3.0T AWD is 30,000 miles. There is no need to change it every oil change. That would be overkill. 30,000 miles is fine.
Is there a FWD-only 3.0T version of the Continental (as with the MKZ)? If yes, the FWD version has an in-tank, non-serviceable fuel filter.
EDIT- The 3.0T was available AWD only in the Continental.

And I would add...Don't worry too much about the whole "walnut blasting" thing with the valves. Use a good quality full synthetic oil and change at no more than 5,000-7,500 miles (1 year maximum either way) and you will be good for the life of the vehicle, or until you trade it in or sell it to someone else.

I would also advise changing transmission and PTU fluids at no more than 50,000 miles (some do it at 30,000), especially if you plan on keeping the car for 10 years.

You can download the PDF versions of the Owner Manuals for Lincoln vehicles (which include the Maintenance Schedules) here: https://www.fleet.ford.com/parts-service/resources/owner-manuals/

Good luck.

Great information. I didn't know about the in tank filter with the FWD 3.0. I live in a mountain town so I will be only looking for AWD though. There is a hill up to my home that is steep enough if the road is not pristine my Town Car cannot make it up the hill. So as you can imagine, AWD is desirable.

Is the fuel filter easier to replace with the AWD 3.0?

I always use high quality oils with additives, fuel additives, and premium fuel in my vehicles so that's great to hear regarding the walnut blasting.

Any other advice or weird quirks you can think of to be on the lookout for?

Its only replaceable on the awd 3.0. Also getting the 3.0 is only really useful with awd. I think the conti will only allow the 3.0 with awd anyways. The MKZ does allow a reduced power version with fwd only.

Hi silverydragon. Yes, you are correct. I had time to check the Dealer Order Guides for the 2017-2020 Continental, and the 3.0T was AWD only.
Since I wasn't sure earlier, I provided the "just in case" information. I'll go back and edit that now.

For information sake, the 2.7T was available with both AWD and FWD in the Continental.

Good luck. 🍻

That is great information. Thank you for that. Should help me avoid any confusion.

Thanks for looking into things as well and double checking. Honestly happy to hear the 3.0 is only available with AWD.
