My Lincoln
2022 Infinite Black Nautilus Black Label
Hi Everyone,

An errant Starbucks chai latte, a stationary tree, and a newly minted 17 year old driver ended a beautiful run of my 2016 MKX Reserve. The insurance company is totaling it and I'm in the market for another Lincoln.

I spotted a beautiful 2019 Nautilus Black Label with 48k miles for $30k and I'm seriously considering the purchase.

Beautiful inside and out, 1 owner, and is a trade in for a 2025 Corsair at the same dealership.

Wanted to ask for possible pitfalls and thoughts. I ran my MKX up to 185k miles replacing a water pump as the only major repair before the kid did her in.

I'd appreciate your thoughts.

The kid is perfectly fine.

Will

Sorry for your MKX and I hope the teenager is OK. Glad to see you had good service from the MKX; I’m planning to keep mine for quite a while.

You must have had the 2.7L if you had the water pump done without it being non economical. If that's the case you will recognize the power/performance. The Gen 2 (CD4) platform has a different feel than the gen 1 (CD3) though.. you will feel more on top of the car than down inside it. Also the drivers side dead pedal is a bit bigger. It is overall a considerable upgrade all around and sync 3 though less customizable has alot of much appreciated features over sync 2.

I drove a 2019 Reserve AWD with the 2.7L for several years and loved it. I can't compare it to the MKX though as I've never been in one. I'll agree with Jacyte, Sync 3 is really nice especially if you like Android Auto and/or Apple Car Play. You can even get a dongle and have those be wireless.

Thanks for all of this feedback.

I'm thinking if we get another 100k out of this car it'll be a good thing.

I was looking last year and saw certified black label 2019s for less on cars.com etc. Some dropped to to 28000 or less. Galloway in Florida, Fair Oaks in Illinois if I recall. I ended up with a much more basic unit since I got a great price on my '2021 reserve with adaptive cruise, CPO from Jarret Gordon in Florida (Jack Slater, highly recommend him and I rarely do that). I would recommend considering spending a bit more and getting a '21 or newer.

'19 had more issues than 20-21, from most reports, and '21-
'23 has the updated interior.
Also, check if it has the 22-way ultra comfort seats. I do not have them and find the seat cushion length too short. Not all black labels have them: it was an option. Most do...

From what I see, '21s and '22s are around 35k+. So a bit higher.
If you get a '19, I'd consider a Lincoln extended warranty. a '22 may have some left or be certified.
Black label is nice, but I like the '21+ interior and wireless Android auto, which I never used before.
Prices see to have risen a bit in a year. Black label is beautiful, but be sure you don't want to spring for the newer interior and that you like the ride quality with the 21 inch wheels (also on some reserves: the beautiful fan wheels are 21s)

I would make my best deal and insist on a transfer case (AWD) & transmission fluid change to seal the deal before delivery.

It's tricked out.

It has 21-inch wheels, and 22-way seats. As Steve C suggested I'm intending to purchase an extended warranty.

I'll do some research on 21 and 22, too.

Considered your advice on the 2021 and we test drove a 2021 Black Label with 46k miles, 1 owner, and clean Carfax. Priced at $33k we thought the younger car, larger screen, and updated interior is worth a little more money. Again, another beautiful vehicle inside and out and enjoyable ride.

We're going to test a few more and make a decision.

Thanks!

33k seems like a very good value, if no crazy fees on top such as some Florida dealers impose ($4000 by the time you are done: dealer family fee, reconditioning fee, etc.). '21 black labels last year were around 36k+, so that is showing some effects of the added year. Hopefully it has some basic service history: mostly just oil changes at that relatively low mileage. Had that car been available, I might have gotten it. I had chance on gorgeous Black Label with 4k miles on it for 43,000 last year, but as a 3rd car that I put 6-7k miles on a year, I went with a lower price point and CPO for around 29k, with similar mileage as yours. Flip side is my 4 cylinder FWD gets 29+ mpg on long trips!. I do have the adaptive cruise that I like, too. I likely would have sprung for what you are seeing if I were in market now. Seems fair if car is in good shape. I am glad you are checking out the '21+. It is nicer IMO in all ways except maybe heated wipers on the older one?

Here's a question. The 2021 we're interested in is solid except for...condensation in the driver side fog light. The light works. The dealer is pushing back on fixing. I want to push back on price. I checked online and some are saying vents allow moisture inside, others are saying seals and an easy fix.

Is this one of those issues requiring front facia removal and is a big deal?

If there is condensation in the fog light , Lincoln will replace it through the 4 year warranty.
Your dealer is just trying to get away from the hustle of order8mg the part and install. As all car companies are attempting to drive down warranty costs buy having the dealer say :Not my responsibility: push it , they will replace.

There should be no condensation in the lens. It is a defect.
It is a warranty item, I believe 4 years from new. Do you know what balance of the OEM warranty is left?
If warranty period is over, they should still address the issue on their dime just to make the sale!
If not, and you are willing to accept as is, you are right in looking for a price adjustment for that defect. These light assemblies are $$$!
If they are giving you pushback on replacing an item that is under warranty, what will service be like from this dealer when you have an issue down the road?
I am leery of this dealer already!

Re-sealing may be possible, but I doubt it would be easy. I am sure splitting the lens from the case will be laborious. I cannot say for sure as I do not know how they seal the lens to the case. Most newer vehicles are glued solid. It takes finesse to separate the lens from the case in most newer applications.

I am not sure about the fascia...some vehicles access is via under hood and wheel well panel, but I am sure a body shop inquiry would give you the answer.

It's outside the 4-year warranty, under 50k though. I'm losing confidence in this dealer as well, and found another Nautilus. 2022, Black Label, and certified pre-owned. Not the exterior color we wanted. Still a looker, and checking it out Tuesday. The additional warranty and CPO allays many of my concerns.

CPO typically has new tires if needed, etc. AND you can pay to extend the warranty as long as the CPO is still in effect. I think for a Lincoln or any expensive car, buying with a warranty (still under new, or cpo) makes sense. Might be different for a $12000 older Camry that has checked out well. Still, check the car up front if possible, as you have been doing. CPO from Lincoln has a $100 deductible, etc. And my battery was bad soon after I got mine: was still covered under the 4 year/50k, probably not under the CPO. If you have original battery, it's likely time. (My start/stop failed to stop).

Just something to consider on the extended warranties, they are certainly less expensive on CPOs, but look out for the extras. If I recall correctly, covering the lighting is an extra you have to add on.

Yes there is a key fob add on as well.

This is what pissed me off when I went to pick up my 23' when new.
I had worked the Lincoln CPO into the deal, was given very little off of MSRP for that warranty. I learned after I signed about the "options", being lighting & FOB as Ccalvin mentioned.
So, upon paper signing & pickup, I questioned the finance manager & got a song & a dance about those optional "add ons" costing more.
I had him remove the CPO from the paperwork & he cried that it "changes the deal".
I said I know it does, changes it in my favor!
These finance people don't know when to quit. The best finance manager I ever worked with was at Park Ave. BMW in Ramsey NJ. No hassles at all!
The worst I ever had was at Chrysler of Ramsey when I purchased a new Caravan for my nephew. That SOB at Chrysler actually changed the deal & thought we would not notice. He did this when we went to pick up the vehicle & sign the finance papers! When I refused his terms, he actually let us walk out the dealership door while the salesman was programming the keyfob for the Caravan!

So we did it. We picked up this beauty last weekend. A 2022 Black Label, CPO. It is a beautiful and well maintained vehicle inside and out. My wife kids and haven't named her yet, but it's coming. Thanks for all of the advice here. We test drove many vehicles and didn't compromise on our standards. It's a solid upgrade over the MKX.

Thanks.
