My Lincoln
2022 Lincoln Aviator
Hello, I am a new Lincoln owner. About about four weeks ago we purchased a 2022 Lincoln Aviator from a certified dealer. Let me start by saying that I loved my vehicle… until yesterday. Yesterday, I was driving the vehicle in a very heavy traffic avenue when suddenly the dashboard started making static noises and then when black. Because I couldn’t see the speed I tried to break, but my car would not slow down. Then the center console electronics—where you see your navigation, heater control, etc.—also shut down. Once that happened, then the car came to a complete halt. It was pretty fortunate that a cop was driving the opposite way, so I flagged him from inside my car and he on put the flashing lights because I was afraid we would get hit since even my emergency roadside lights were not working.

Then the issue was getting out of the car because the button to open the door was not working so I had to start using my shoulder to hit the door and it finally opened. But that was the only door that opened, so my mom had to climb out the driver seat, and my dog that was in the back, I had to help him jump over the seats to get out. We ended up having to tow the car to the dealership because it was completely dead. Has anyone had something similar like this happened? Because it was very scary situation. Thank you, kindly.

The vehicle has an emergency door release.

Please report back as to the other issue. Thanks.

Yes, I’ve taken my aviator to the shop for a very similar incident. The kept it for two weeks and stated that they couldn’t find anything wrong with the vehicle. I had to pay for a system upgrade. Over the past two weeks on three separate occasions when I press the button to turn the ignition off, the car immediately shuts down. The driver seat doesnt let back and the display goes black. When it does this, the car has reset and it won’t allow me to start it back up for about 15 min. I’ve started making videos because the dealership can’t seem to have any luck with the mimicking the issues.
Has anyone had any luck with the dealership finding a solution to the problem?

Mine has been at the dealership for about a week and a half. They finally called up and said that it was the battery. The dealership said it was a freak incident where the battery malfunctioned and shorted the system. It still there because they had to order the battery. I really don’t have any reason at this point to doubt them, as this dealership has been amazing since I bought my first car from them about 10 yrs ago. But I’ll make sure to record this if it happens again; good idea.

Have you confirmed that the Easy Entry/Exit is enabled? I don't believe I've read of other owners having this issue.

Can those with issues advise ICE or hybrid? Trim level?

My vehicle is back in the shop. On Sunday, as I was driving , a message came across the display stating that “the system was off to save battery please turn the ignition off or start engine”. I was afraid that it was going to shut down while I was driving so I pulled off the road and turned the vehicle off. It wouldn’t restart, the system completely shut down and I had to have it towed to the dealership. It’s been there for 5 days now, and they still haven’t figured out what is wrong.
Less than two weeks ago, they stated that there were some codes that needed to be cleared, I paid for that service and it continues to have what appears to be “system issues”. How and when is a buy back determined?

Hi Gquaites. You stated you “paid” to have codes cleared? Why?

You should not have needed to pay if your 2022 is still within the 4 year/50,000 mile New Vehicle Warranty,
I also read back and saw you previously paid for an “upgrade”? You should not have paid for that either. Assuming we have all the necessary information.

Where are you located? In the US/Canada or somewhere else? Where did you take your vehicle for service? A Lincoln/Ford Dealership? Somewhere else?

Concerning a “buy back”. There is no set rule for a manufacturer buyback. That is something you would need to discuss with your Lincoln Dealership and Lincoln Concierge. It is doubtful (but not impossible), that you would get a manufacturer buyback offer at this point. However, it never hurts to ask.

Your other option would be a Lemon Law buyback. Since Lemon Laws vary by state, you would need to Google the Lemon Law regulations in your particular state to see if/when your case would qualify.

However…in the meantime, you need to be reimbursed for the money you paid for that “update” and code clearing. Assuming you had the work performed at a Lincoln and/or Ford Dealership. And it wouldn’t hurt to take out the Owner Warranty booklet and read up on your warranty coverages, in order to better understand your warranty rights.

Keep us updated and good luck.

It sounds like the battery wasn't being charged and was being drained. Could be an alternator issue. Curious as to what the dealer finds. Please report back. Thanks.

My used 2020 Aviator GT (PHEV) keeps giving me "Charging System Service Soon" message and my passenger side door keypad no longer shows. I went to Envision Ford/Lincoln in CA, It take service department almost a week (No loaner provided) then tell me the issue is cause by the 12V AGM battery and they replace it under warranty (My car only has 30,000 miles). One week after dealer replace the battery, the same message comes back. so I hook up the CTek battery tender to charge the battery and I finally learned the Aviator PHEV is not a good vehicle for short distance driving. My daily routine is 18 miles roundtrip between work and home. I set the vehicle only charge upto 80% to prolong the battery life. Therefore everyday my car give me around 17 miles pure electric miles under "normal" driving mode. After high voltage battery depleted, vehicle will "START" the hybrid mode. Which means everyday my car's alternator only runs less than 2-3 light load miles to charge the 12V battery and that's far then enough to cover the vehicle operation electrical consumption. So now I have to open the hood, open the battery cover every week to charge the 12V battery then reset the BCM module.
I now turn off or use less frequent of some electric consume features such as A/C, massage, interior illuminate light during work days to avoid tender charge my 12V twice a week. Since dealer technician does not have too much knowledge about the issue so I'm still trying to find a better solution for the hassle.
During my research, I found some police interceptor PHEV had secondary 12V battery located at driver side trunk area. I search everywhere from the internet and no one ever mention anything about this battery in any Lincoln forums. Anyone have any idea about this 12V AUX battery?

I don't know if your Aviator may be different from the Corsair but my 2023 Corsair GT PHEV charges the 12V battery as part of charging the HV battery. In a year and a half of driving that sounds similar to yours, I've had no problems.

You might want to search in your manual for charging details.

hyl768s - If I understand your post correctly, I hear you to say that you're charging the main 12V battery (full sized AGM, yes?). On the police interceptor - yes I would expect one if not more auxiliary battery(ies) because with police duty they sit at extended idle times (less charging current from the battery) and/or time with the engine not running, Police cars typically have a lot more electrical load so I would guess that's been the way (auxiliary battery) for many years now.

(why are the fonts messing with me?!?!?)

Another thought may be that after 4 years your battery may be approaching end of life.

If I understood correctly, then I would not think an auxiliary battery is germane to your plight. I'd be curios what you find.

Perhaps if you get no other clues, you could have it tested.

The dealer informed me that they found a loose sensor which was causing the issue. However, today—on day 11 of driving—another problem occurred: a “Park Aid Fault” error message appeared on the screen. Additionally, I’ve noticed that the overhead light on the driver’s side has started turning on randomly.

I’ve exceeded the 50K mileage warranty on the vehicle.

Your dealer perhaps did not properly troubleshoot and repair. I'd see what they'll do from here without paying another time (i.e. if 11 days ago was warranty - still under warranty this 'this' repair; if 11 days you paid the dealer - tell them to figure it out!).

Thanks for the reply, Evision Ford/Lincoln in Durate, CA replace the main 12V battery. They said is no good. After I got my car back. Next day, the same "Charging System Service Soon" warning message pop up again. So I purchase two AGM battery charger to charge both front 12V battery and AUX battery in the trunk for whole day then manually reset the BMS. Next day, the message pop up again!! So I bring my car back to the stealership.

After another 2 days of inspection, service department told me All batteries are in good condition, but some how still pop the message, they need another two days to get help from FORD. Two days later, the service department told me the problem is caused by BCM that require an update. The update will take whole day.
After the update, they told me the issue has been fixed so I pick up my car and drove home. Next day morning, when I start up the vehicle, the same old "Charging System Service Soon" pop up again!!!

I called Envision Ford/Lincoln service dept. report this and they start giving me "the technician is on jury duty....... once he back, I'll let him know....." and did not follow up with me later.

I don't mind to leave my vehicle for them to get problem solved, but there is no Ford/Lincoln dealership near me willing to honor Lincoln "Pickup & Delivery" from their website to provide me a loaner. Even my car still under manufacture bumper to bumper warranty! I called Lincoln directly to address the issue. All I got is local dealership not obligate to provide the service they put on manufacture website!

Because of this, I have to rent vehicle; ask for ride; postpone my appointments.....All out of my own pocket because of their shameless customer service behavior. What kind of "Luxury Brand" is this.

I still have no idea when my car's issue will be fixed, I do know my Aviator B to B warranty will be expired in March. I will never buy Ford or Lincoln Product.

Call the concierge desk and complain. I'd have a decent summary written up ready to email if they will let you.

Hi hyl768s. Sorry to hear about your issue. How far in miles is the closest Lincoln Dealership?

If it is further than the Drop-off/Pick-up Service allows (there is a distance limit), call (don’t use the website) your Lincoln Dealership to schedule a service appointment for when they have an available loaner and bring your vehicle in yourself. Again, forget about using the website to schedule. It is not always efficient.
You may need to wait a few weeks for an appointment with a loaner, but it seems your vehicle is drivable?

Or…you can contact Lincoln Concierge to let them know of your issue. Arrange with them to obtain a rental vehicle and be reimbursed expenses while your vehicle is in for service…up to the allowable per diem amount for your particular vehicle. Compensation varies by vehicle.

On a related note: Ford only Dealerships are under no obligation to offer Lincoln perks, such as complementary loaners. Without consent from Lincoln/Ford, they are not compensated for Lincoln perks.

Those are a few available options, if you wish to use them.

Keep us updated and good luck.

Hi, bbf2530,

Thanks for the reply. There are only 3 Lincoln dealerships near me within 20 miles radius and no, I never use web site to schedule service appointments. I always call the Lincoln dealership service dept. advisor for the service. I also called Lincoln Concierge, both local dealerships nor Lincoln Concierge willing to help me to get a loaner. Dealership service dept. advisor told me they " No longer provide any loaner to customer".

I have no choice but try the Lincoln website "Chat" and see if I will get lucky from there. The Lincoln chat even worst about the situation. They asked if I purchased extended warranty from 3rd party. I told them yes, and they said "You should take advantage from the extended warranty you purchased. They will give you free rental while your car being repaired". I replied " Are you telling me I need to use my 3rd party extended warranty service to make warranty repair and get rental for my car that is still under manufacture B to B warranty"??? and Lincoln Chat replied me " That's what I'll suggest". I don't know how Lincoln can retain their business if their business model like this.

Hi hyl768s. Sorry, you mentioned the website in your first post, so thought you were attempting to schedule through the website.

I offered several options, one being rental reimbursement, which is available when complementary loaners are not. Speak to Lincoln Concierge about that.

I’m also wondering whether there may be a bit of a communication failure involved, since it is unusual that no Lincoln Dealership, out of 3 within 20 miles, will offer a complimentary loaner, even if you were to drive your vehicle to the Dealership and pick up the loaner.

Again, you may need to wait several weeks for availability, but it is unusual that zero out of 3 dealerships will offer complementary loaners, for in-warranty vehicles, several weeks out in the schedule.

If that is still the case, ask Lincoln Concierge about rental car reimbursement.

Keep us updated and good luck.
