99 Tahoe engine Q?

Anybody know anything about what engine is in a 1999 Tahoe? Obviously, I know it\'s a 5.7, but I\'m no GM expert and I do know there are at least several variations of the 350 (old school carb\'ed- obviously NOT in a 99 model, LT1, LS1, etc, etc). What I\'m wanting to know is what kind of 5.7 came in a 1999 Tahoe and what\'s the interchangeability? I\'d assume it\'d be the same engine as in the Silverado/Sierra and Yukon, but what years will work? Also, did GM use that specific engine in anything else? I\'ve always been fond of the Tahoe, and I just found one for sale with a blown engine, so any advice would be appreciated. Also, anyone happen to know a ballpark figure on how much a running engine would run me? Thanks.

Duh, it\'s a Vortec right? I knew that. I guess I\'m asleep at the wheel today... okay, now what interchanges?

It\'s a Vortec 5.7. I believe 96 or 97 were the first years for the Vortec headed 350 and continued on into either 99 or 2000. The blocks are the same as any other roller block. The heads will fit onto any other roller block but other style intakes will not work on the Vortec heads due to the length of the face of the head on the intake side.

Yep. Vortec 5.7, anything from 96-99 in Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, van, or pickup (99 is Classic 1500 only). There were a few Tahoe Limited and Tahoe z71\'s built in 2000 that would have the same engine also. If you pick up a used one, swap the intake gaskets before you install it. Both 99 Tahoes I have had needed intake gaskets. The last time I priced a used one it was $750 with around 100K, no accessories. You might be able to find a reman engine pretty reasonably also.
