I installed a K&N air intake in my 2020 navigator and I got a check engine light from it. Has anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it?

Are you talking about the Service Engine Soon indication? If so, did you put the old filter back in and it extinguished?

Do you have a code reader? If it happened right after the exchange I'll bet something is not within specifications, if you can pull the code it would clearly give you some insight that it was the filter change or not, there maybe something else going on.

If you are looking for a performance change with the K&N I doubt you will notice anything. Today's vehicles have too many sensors which optimize all the aspects of combustion to meet the current EPS requirements. Its only my guess, but my suspicion is to see any significant performance change you would have to also be using a software tuner and maybe change your CAT's.

Is it an entire cold air style intake or just a drop in filter? At any rate, some vehicles are more sensitive to aftermarket intakes due to different air flow characteristics and/or oil from the filter contaminating some sensor (AIT). My daughters Mustang threw an O2 sensor code when I installed a cold air intake on it, but after I then installed a full performmace exhaust, never has another issue with the codes Not sure if thats your case, but definitely get the code read so you know exactly what its complaining about.

Hi Mike. Yes, this can and has happened to others and can be caused by various issues.

In all honesty, you would be better off re-installing the factory intake and selling the K&N. An aftermarket air intake will do nothing for performance and/or power, other than make a little more intake noise and look pretty.

The factory intake is a "Cold Air Intake" which brings air in through the sealed snorkel and delivers far more air to the intake system than the engine needs. The K&N and other so called "cold air intakes" are actually hot air intakes, since they do not properly seal/seal against the hood. Therefore, they actually deliver hot engine compartment air to the intake system.

Plus...and more importantly in my opinion... it will cause issues such as this, and it can/will lead to possible warranty claims denials in the future, for certain engine problems and issues (such as CEL's).

Lincoln warranties the vehicle as it was sold to us. If we modify it, they can deny any warranty claim for problems that are even remotely connected/related to the modification. And modifications like this are specifically addressed in the Warranty Guide that comes with the vehicle when purchased new

Bottom line is: An aftermarket intake will do nothing for performance, can cause problems/issues (as it already has for you), and can lead to possible warranty claims issues/denials down the road.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
