I know the intake manifolds are one of the few famously unreliable things on this car. I have a 2001. The heater passage that goes into the hose from the heater core into the engine block broke while I was removing the hose for cleaning. Is there any way to repair this without replacing the whole intake manifold? Any kind of coupling or sealant trick to get the hose reconnected to the block?

On the bright side, if I replace the intake manifold, I won’t have to worry about replacing it again. It’s an older car and it was bound to happen, but there’s only 70,000 miles.

I am not totally familiar with your description of a "heater passage".
It sounds like a description of a pipe nipple.
If yes is this metal or plastic.

If piece that broke is under the intake manifold behind the water pump, then removal of both the upper and lower intake will be necessary to gain access.
Sealant would not be recommended for any piece in the cooling system, except to seal threads of a pipe or bolt.

A picture may clarify.
And with low mileage on a 24 year old vehicle, coolant changes would be based on time not mileage. Especially if the broken piece is metal. And using the correct coolant is critical. Because the engine is alloy, using the green stuff may not work in your application. Consult the owner's manual. Green coolant may be correct, and you would want too be sure.
