Blue Smoke On Startup

I had a 2020 with same problem. Dealer didn't find anything wrong with it. I put 28,000 miles on it before trading last year.

This has me thinking as I am due soon for an oil change probably to be done at the dealership.

All my oil changes have always been done at the dealership with absolutely no issues whatsoever.

Low oil level in the crankcase plus blue smoke out the tailpipe suggests it’s burning oil. As Action said it could be some seals somewhere such as valves, PCV, or piston rings. I’ve heard some car manufacturers have switched parts suppliers due to Covid shutdowns, etc. Maybe they got a batch of bad seals. Irregardless, it’s an issue that has to be fixed or else your engine will burn up. If your vehicle is under warranty, I would push on that till the cows come home.

6000 miles on 2022 Aviator. Blues smoke from exhaust after sitting that goes away after a few seconds. The longer it sits the more smoke bit it usually sits for a day. Dealer is changing the oil and said they will go from there. This doesn't seem like a solution to me. I am not accepting this as a solution. It is embarrassing to start up a 73k and blue smoke pours out!

I have the same issue. 2021 Lincoln Aviator Reserve with the six-cylinder and twin turbos. It has had one oil change and I've found it does it on initial startup most everyday and especially worse if it's sitting on an incline with the front end higher than the rear. It's going in for service on 10/20/22.

From my experience as a dealership service manager. The parts dept will sometimes buy the least expensive bulk oil to improve their bottom line. Having the oil change done at the dealership is not a guarantee of quality or viscosity.

There are a lot of different incentives in using Motorcraft Oil on the dealership level. Those incentives have a lot of variables. Depending on how efficient the dealership is run and how much volume is used and purchase the net price can be quite different depending on the store.

Nice to know about the "bulk" oil. My dealer uses the Motorcraft oil right from the bottles.

I would like to think the big volume dealers would use what is suggested by corp. Do they follow that directive? Great question. Would be it be safe to say it may not be a bad idea to ask what type (brand) of oil is used for oil changes? I guess depending on the dealer, the answer you get may or may not matter. Another one of those "they can tell you anything" questions we live with unless you have the inside knowledge.

Would be interesting to see more than just what kind of oil they use !

No argument from me on that. Would be a profit killer for sure. Would verify not only what they are doing to your vehicle, but also how long it really takes. Some of those charges for how long it takes to do things leaves people scratching their heads.

You may be able to do that unless the shop has rules against it. You also cannot lawfully record audio unless you are a participant in the conversation. It wouldn't be of much use if the hood was left up either.

I'm not thinking about using it in court, but just for my own information. If the camera is aimed right under the back edge of the hood when it's open, you might be able to tell what's going on to some extent. It's better than nothing, but far from perfect.

This is an issue that I have seen myself on our ST, same engine that is in the Aviator, and others discussing this on another forum. The driver side turbo does seem to the common cause of this now, with people being all set after it's replaced. I will be bring my to the dealer soon.
