Hello, I hope someone can shed some light or point me to some troubleshooting docs. I've already found tons of helpful posts on this site, but none that I've found have this specific problem.
I replaced lower control arms, and inner/outer tie rods on both sides of a friends 2001 Continental with air ride suspension. The car has air ride bags in the back and electronically controlled (air struts?) in front. His tires were wearing on the inside corner, and his shop told him his bushings on the control arms were shot. He also described torque steering symptoms... When I replaced the control arms, I did find quite a bit of wear in the bushings, and also some wear on the inner tie rod on the drvr side. I replaced all the tie rods just to make sure. The ball joints were fine so I didn't replace them.
When I did the repairs, I turned off the air system using the off switch in the trunk, swapped the parts and everything seems to be working fine. While swapping LCAs, I found each one had a small rod threaded into it with a ball on the end. There was a device connected to it that looked like a height sensor, it was vertical and about 6" long with a boot - I made sure to reconnect it just like it was before.
Now, the front end is ridiculously high, like 6 inches too high. The rear end seems to be working fine, it airs up to normal height shortly after starting the vehicle. My question is, can this be reset? Will it normalize itself after a while or is there something I can to do?
Thanks!
