Air bag warning light

The air bag warning light just came on in my 2007 MKZ. I took it to a cerstified independent repair shop. They diagnosed a faulty "Occupy sensor" and a module on the front passenger seat. The cost of the sensors and the module would be fairly reasonable, but they are only available if you also buy the seat rails, etc. Total parts cost = about $880. Labor, about $150.

Is this a common problem with the 07 MKZ, and if so, does Lincoln stand behind it? The car only has 40,000 miles on it. If the warning light is on, does that mean that no air bags will deploy in a collision? Does anyone know how to buy JUST the needed parts, and not the whole assembly?

It's most likely a load-pressure transducer. Unfortunately, I couldn't tell you which sensor. I'm good at finding parts, but I'm not going to take my car apart to see who makes the sensor and if I can decipher the p/n from it. But it's worth a try, so if it's possible, can you snap a photo of your sensor/module?

Thank you, Paulgress. I will do that. I will take my car back to the shop and ask the owner if he can help me ID the part numbers. I will get back to you, but it will probably be Monday before I can. I'm out of town tomorrow, and the shop is closed on Saturdays.

I do have a page (parts schematic) from Ford that the shop owner printed out and gave to me. The part numbers are all on there, but I need to ask the guy exactly which part numbers are the ones needed. Thanks again.

The P/Ns most likely will be Lincoln/Ford numbers. You may be able to order the Sensor alone from that P/N.

Hi matune1. Hope I am not too late - Before spending that sort of money on sensors, seat rails etc., have your battery checked. Our cars (MKZ, Fusion, Milan) have a tendency to throw an airbag system fault when the battery is on its way out. Has to do with the pre-start system check not getting a proper reading due to the weak battery. Happened with my car (2007 MKZ) while still under warranty. It is a relatively common issue and a new battery cured the problem.

I am here now with this issue. Sensor is around $170 and I can get a whole seat at a salvage yard cheaper. Even If I buy the sensor, I still might have to take it to the dealer for them to calibrate it. Trying to find my seat in the right shade and close is another story.

Not to mention I went to the trouble to start a new thread which only ref'd this one for historical purposes and additional information what SOME folks might find of use... them what ain't interested or have nothing of value to contribute should avail theysefs of the lil magical Scroll Bar to the far right on yer screen and move on ta sump'n where ya might be of some use... So what you are telling us is that you want it for less?

Why not just buy the part you need, sensor, or seat... and install it... OH Wait, you can't find a wreck in that color... I bet you can if you buy just the sensor... 8)
