I have upgraded my speakers to infinity and am looking for advice on an aftermarket deck with blue tooth capability for an 04 Town car. What is a double din ? I don't know anything about after market radios. I see how the factory radio removes with the metal clips so what about an after market unit ? Would it be removed with the metal clips as well ? I hate the thought that if something went wrong I do not want to have to tear the dash apart to be able to remove the deck. The clips make it so easy to remove the factory unit. Also are all panther platforms the same dash hole size for an after market radio ? Thanks.

2003 and up Towncar dash opening fits a double din up to ~7.0 inches screen. Double din is much larger than single din; I don't think the Crown Vic or Grand Marquis can fit a double din. Also I believe earlier TownCars before '03 were single or 1.5 din. You can go to Crutchfield.com and they will show you a wide variety of head units and installation kits that are all compatible with your car. Their prices are usually competitive as well

Hi Kevin Ludtke. I second the advice of 04TC. Go to the Crutchfield website and use their online fitment guild and tools to see what will fit your Town Car. Or, if you would prefer talking to someone, call and speak to one of their sales and fitment specialist.

www.crutchfield.com

Their customer service is the best, and their prices are competitive.

Concerning needing to “…tear the dash apart to be able to remove the deck…” later?
Don’t worry. Most modern units are designed with slide-in chassis installations.

I’m sure others will also jump in to help, so keep us updated and good luck.

Simply my opinion, but if you happen to have the THX system... don't bother.

I happened to win a free stereo upgrade at a local charity event many years ago. I too thought it would be cool to have Bluetooth and a more modern Navigation system along with a backup camera. This was for my 2006 Designer series that at the time was a daily driver for the wife. I selected one of the higher model Kenwood head units that was recommended (I forget the model, I would need to go look).

The sound was OK at best but nothing dramatically different to my ears (which was fine as that wasn't my reason to upgrade). The Bluetooth capability was pretty basic but was rather disappointing. The Navigation was functional but honestly not much of an upgrade. The rear camera was helpful but... the screen was quite disappointing. If I had to do it over and if I had spent my own money, I would never have upgraded.

Again, just my opinion. Now maybe if CarPlay was included and the screen was a higher quality?
