My Lincoln
2025 Nautilus
[] SYNC 5 ISSUE WITH USB DRIVES On a 2025 Lincoln Nautilus []
- After starting the vehicle, I can insert a USB thumb drive & it plays the mp3 songs fine until I shut-off the vehicle.
- I can also insert the USB stick before I start the vehicle & the same thing happens.
- Then, when I restart, one of these 3 things happens:
1 - SYNC says the USB drive is no longer available & I get a message saying it has failed
2 - the drive is still there but SYNC reports there is no media on it
3 - the drive just disappears
- When I check the USB drive on a Windows PC, these 2 things always happen:
1 - Windows always says there are errors. I go thru the scan & repair, sometimes Windows finds errors, sometimes it doesn't
2 - SYNC 5 has copied several new folders onto the USB drive. (Movies, Music, Pictures etc)
- When I re-insert the repaired USB drive back into the Nautilus, the process repeats. This happens every time.
- This occurs on 4 different SanDisk & Samsung USB 256Gig thumb drives.
- These 4 drives always worked fine on my 2017 Lincoln MKX (which I traded in for the 2025 Nautilus)

To troubleshoot:
- I've tried using FAT32, exFat & NTFS formatting. NTFS does not work at all (it did on the 2017 Lincoln)
- I've tried using both the Type A port & the USB-C port with an adapter. (the ones located in the console)
- Why is SYNC always corrupting the USB drives?
- My Lincoln has been getting software/firmware updates.
- I called the 1-800-565-3673 number, talked with Binta, she did some basic troubleshooting, said there are no more SYNC software updates coming for my vehicle & that I cannot submit a "bug report" to her group. My only recourse was to take the vehicle to Ford for diagnostics & servicing. I am sure they CANNOT fix this issue.
- I BELIEVE THIS IS A SYNC SOFTWARE BUG

For the USB, format with MBR (not GPT) FAT32. I've got 256GB drives that are working okay (subject to the below).

I do have a problem with needing to regrant permission to AudioWagon to access the USB each time I start the car (after it has fully shut down), then it's fine for the rest of the drive. The AudioWagon site is aware of the issue, apparently Ford needs to fix how they implemented the interface to car-usb-handler (CUH is provided by Google, other makes of vehicles with AAOS are working fine). People should ping Lincoln, it's a software defect, clearly not operating properly.
