2024 Nautilus List of Voice Commands

Update: Trying to do those things with Google Assistant results in, "Sorry, I can't control that in this car."
Thanks for checking, that would have been so cool.

Starting to see/think that Android Auto OS can't touch anything that is not a component of the "infotainment" system. It seems like the only control for the sunroof and rear hatch, in this topic, are the physical switches. Bummer doughnuts dude!

Keep trying stuff though as it is so much easier to say than search many levels deep into the touch screen to get things done.

Tried Google commands for sunroof and tailgate. No worky. Not sure why they would disable a feature that worked on the China models. We did set up her google account and now map destinations are voice activated. Downloaded the fireplace app, so now there’s a crackling fire up front. Everytime we explore this car’s features, we discover something that makes us laugh our asses off. 🤣

I was happy and surprised when I decided to tell the system to send a text. I pressed the command button on the steering wheel and said ”Text so and so“. It came back asking for the message, which I provided. As I spoke, the message could be seen on the infotainment screen. The system then repeats the message to me and asks if I want to send it. I said yes of course.

I followed this message with one using Hey Google. Similar interface as above but not as nice as you don’t see your message typed on the infotainment. But it seemed to also work.

However when I got home I quickly realized that neither message was sent. There is no record of the messages on my phone and the person I was texting did not receive them.

So it seems like this should maybe work, but did not on my Galaxy S22. Would like to hear if this works for someone else.

it seems to also recognize “ Send a message to …” but that in the end fails too after appearing to succeed.

I don't use an Android phone, but I'm able to send a text via my iPhone 15 Pro by holding down the voice button on the steering wheel then saying "text so and so." As I recall, holding down the button engages Siri, but through the car's infotainment system rather than directly via the phone which may be tucked away in my pocket.

I do have Apple CarPlay enabled, but sending a text worked the same way on my MKZ which didn't have CarPlay.

Interesting. I’ll have to try it while running Android Auto. it should really work with or without, I would think.

It has and does work great, but Siri actually does send the text so be careful

I do not want to send messages or even have them visible. I tried to disable the messages app using the settings but did not work. I could do a force stop.

Thoughts?

I tried dictating a text again, this time with Android auto running and no dice! It does not work for me. It goes thru all the motions like it’s going to work, but in the end nothing gets sent. If someone else with an Android phone can try this, maybe we can figure out if it’s a system bug or if it’s my phone. Odd that a google system would send texts thru iPhones but be broken for android phones.

Okay, I just tried it with my Samsung S24 Ultra. First with the screen on home, then with the screen on Android Auto. Each time I first did it with "Hey Google", the second time with pressing the steering wheel button. Four times total. Every time, a text message was sent and received.

Note 1: I use Textra as my texting app.

Note 2: On the first attempt from home screen, Google showed me three available numbers for the contact and asked which one to use. On the second attempt from home screen, it did not ask which number. It just used the same one it had already used.
When I switched to the Android Auto screen to do it, Google again asked me which number to use the first time (same contact), but not the second time. Seems to indicate a different path through the system.

Bring this one back to life and maybe we can get a full list of H.G. commands that have worked for the community?

People can add comments of additional commands, unfortunately I cannot edit the original post (OP) or any post more than a day (+/-) old.

@Administrator - Is there a way to allow me to edit the OP, or even my second post on the thread, so that we can get to a consolidated list? I'd be willing to do the updates (comb through posts, pull up the ones that people say they have used into the original post. The idea is to make it so people don't have to scroll through all the posts to see if there's a command to do something. Thanks!)

I have this exact same issue with my S21. I even changed my text messaging app from Samsung messages to Google and it still won't do voice to text. Did you ever get resolution? Also, my spouse has an iPhone and the voice to text works perfect.

I think I got it to work once when I was running Android auto but don’t remember how. I basically stopped trying it. However, when I receive a text and it asks me if I want to reply and I say yes, then the text does do through.

Add another one to the camp of "works with Hey Google and Android Auto but not with the voice recognition button".
With the voice recognition button everything looks like it is sending the message but nothing is sent, nothing is received.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

I have been able to respond this way recently too. It certainly didn't work for me this way a month ago.

Just got the 2025 Aviator with built in Google and Android System. The text messages using the vehicle is spotty at best. Use your Android Auto to send the text. Do do this hold the steering mic until your Android Auto displays. Speak the text messages and it will work. I have the Samsung 22 as well.
