2024 Hybrid Nautilus (Engine Problems)

Wow. This is just crazy. Six engine replacements just in our little corner of Nautilus-dom. Many of you guys are much more mechanical than I am. Do you think that if this problem doesn't occur in the first few days of ownership, then owners are in the clear? Really thankful right now that I chose the ICE model. I feel like I dodged a bullet.

One way or the other, it seems to me that Lincoln needs a stop sale on the Hybrid to have the injectors inspected before cars are delivered.
Do I dare go on an 1100 mile drive to Florida 😩Would be nice to know what percentage of hybrids are affected . Or even better, which builds.

It’s likely a very small percentage. It seems that it occurs within the first few hundred miles. I wouldn’t be worried.

Yikes. Of all the '24 Nautilus stories so far, that's gotta be the worst. Make sure you have full documentation of time-line for potential lemon law buy-back. What state are you in?
Dealer canceled our deal, found another one (only other one in the state) wrote new deal with new VIN. All is well so far!

Is this related to the Nautilus hybrid issue?

Is this related to the Nautilus hybrid issue?

It looks to be a different issue but also linked to a fuel injector supplier quality issue. The 1.5L uses the same P/N direct injector as the nautilus. P2GZ9F593B. It may have been the port injector though, its not clear.

Direct injection uses very high pressure and its always been a risk of having the injectors break and separate in the cylinder. Happens with diesels often and pretty much any direct injected gasoline engine runs that risk. You can find plenty of accounts from pretty much all auto makers that use direct injection.

Just wondering if any of the people having issues have gotten their car back yet and how the issues were resolved.

I was the first one to report this issue and have not received my car back. It's been over a month now. The only information I get from the dealer is that "parts are on order". I'm glad that some of you have gotten details, I have not and it is extremely frustrating. I was told today that they have no ETA but likely the end of April.

Question for those of you with more technical/mechanical insight. From these "injector" issues could there be permanent damage caused by the failure that already happened? Or will replacing the failed parts fix the issue go forward and nothing else would have permanently been impacted as a result of the initial failure? Hope that makes sense, I'm not that savvy with auto mechanics. My concern is that I get the car back and they replaced the specific part but now there are deeper issues that will crop up later as a result.

It sounds like you never got an actual diagnosis of the issue with your car. It might not even be related for all we know (likely is). If it was a fuel injector that came apart, they would inspect the cylinder for signs of damage. If there is damage they likely would do a short-block replacement. If there is no damage then they might just replace the failed injector. In either scenario I don't think there would be other collateral damage.

Jacyte - thank you for the input, that is very helpful. I did get some more information today. They said they were waiting on a part and since it was a new car the parts had to come from corporate. Apparently that takes multiple weeks ;). They wouldn't say what part and still haven't given me a diagnosis which is what frustrates me.

As the car owner they should disclose what is wrong with the vehicle. Have you talked to the service manager?

30 days is the most common days out of service for most states' lemon law actions. You could almost certainly reverse your deal or get a new car at this point. Is that something you're considering?

24 Nautilus Reserve with less than 500 miles, not the hybrid. Blown cylinder head that needs a full engine replacement. Service says it will take two weeks but I don’t believe that. I filed a claim with the concierge service under the Lincoln goodwill program for a replacement vehicle. 5 days for a decision from Lincoln to say if they will replace, offer a buyout or decline the claim. Up to 15 days in CA. I don’t want the car back after a full engine replacement.

If it's a full engine replacement I wouldn't be too tense about it, but I do understand your preference.

Is @Thomas49's issue the first time we've heard of this issue from a non-hybrid owner?

Wow is all I can say ! This is what we get for corporations outsourcing parts and any work to a place like China ! I’d bet the bad injectors are from China lol. I wouldn’t want to keep a new car that needs an engine. Even if they get a new engine most shops don’t have mechanics meticulous enough to do the job like the factory build. They always leave something out or something not the way it was designed to be from the factory. What a shame !

So GLAD I canceled my order for a 24 Hybrid and purchased a Subaru Outback Touring XT.

What! 🤪
Why didn't you go for a new 2023 Nautilus?
My wife & I are loving our 23' Naut, totally trouble free from day one! Fit and finish is fantastic, Sync 4 rocks, software & interface is A+
Best Nautilus built to date, (thank you 🇨🇦 ) and most likely the high water mark of the Nautilus series for years to come!
Don't get me wrong, you can't beat a Subaru, but did you test drive a 2023 Naut before jumping ship?

I got our 2023 Nautilus in 11/11/2023 , had a 10/19/2023 build date, one of the last North American builds. A really sweet car! It's really sad hearing about all the the problems with the 2024's but that's always been one of the major downfalls of any new 1st gen auto. It's nice to have a new production model, but you take that chance of being the tester for all the problems.
