I plan to change the transmission oil in my 2020 Continental Reserve. I understand that only 6 quarts can be drained out (without disassembling the trans for overhaul).
Also, there is no filter to change.

I think dealers and transmission repair shops drain out 6 quarts and put 6 back in.
So, I intend to do the same thing.

Any cautions or warnings anybody can think of?

Hi Dwurz. You are correct about the filter.

Concerning the transmission fluid change (opinion here): I understand preferring to do your own maintenance when possible. I do too.
However, if it is not too much of a financial consideration, I would advise instead that you have your Lincoln Dealer, or a Ford Dealer, perform a complete fluid exchange/flush. This will get all the old fluid out, along with most of the possible contamination, in a better and far more efficient manner.

Some people will recommend repeatedly partially draining/filling/driving several times in order to try and accomplish the same results as a full fluid exchange/flush. However, it is not the same.

I’m sure others will jump in with more advice, so keep us updated and good luck.

The transmission model number is a 6F55.

A flush using a machine (as stated above) will remove all of the fluid.
Still the filter will be inside as it is not replaceable unless the transmission case is disassembled. If that was done, the filter can be replaced.

Thanks for the comments.

I like Makuloco. He is the best for Ford cars and trucks.

I can see that getting all of the oil out is the best service. I am going to check out why some transmission repair shops do not want to do the flush method.

FWIW, I think Valvoline (and maybe others) drop te line at the cooler and replace the fluid from there, makes it a 100% change.

Best,

I have a 2020 Nautilus with a 8F57 8-speed, about 45K miles. I talked to 2 reputable local transmission shops. One said they recommend the partial drain and fill (twice, I think) every 30K miles and quoted about $325. Another said they do a full fluid replacement through the cooler lines and quoted almost $600 before tax.

Well, I finally changed the transmission oil on the Continental F655. It had 30,000 miles on it.
I drained and filled it twice. That took 9 quarts of oil.

Jacking up and blocking the car was the physical part. The rest was easy.

Now, the oil is so clear, it is difficult to see the oil level on the dip stick.
I think I saved $200. and am good for another 30,000 miles.
Thanks for the tips,
Richard
