2013 MKZ Hybrid electrical failure

Go to Ford Motor Company website, get the email address for marketing and PR and tell them you're about to bring your car to reviewed by the local news team. Tell them you want them to test drive your car. Sorry, but, it's not even safe to drive and Lincoln/Ford knows it. Did you lease, finance or buy it with cash?

MKZLover, That is a very good suggestion. I have talked with with some friends about tcsdoc's problem, they all agreed that this sounded like a lemon law case. There are lawyers that excel in doing just lemon law cases,if you do not feel confident to pursue this on your own. This is really getting interesting! Jim

It keeps getting worse. I received another call from Scott, my service rep's supervisor and was told Ford is now implementing a new ordering process from vendors. The part that I need will take longer to get to the dealer since it's being ordered under the new system.

Today is day number 25 without my car. I still do not have an ETA for the part's arrival. The truly sad part is the dealership it's only 90% sure this will fix the car. They can't guarantee it.

Curious, you don't live in Oregon by any chance do you?

Quick Update on My Electrical Issue:

Being May 9th, I brought the car in today and within a few hours received a call from the service rep as was told that the malfunctioning auto locks/key fod is a programing issue and that "Lincoln engineering is working on a repair in Michigan, this is a common issue with Z-Hybrid cars, it should take approximately 2 weeks to figure out and will likely require a flash update to fix the problem". In the meantime I'm driving my car with this minor annoyance - everything else works as advertised. So I'll wait 2 weeks and follow up at such time. As a side note, my last tank of gas averaged a real world 5.6 L/100km or the equivalent to 42 miles/gallon. With a hyper-mile attitude, I don't see why one can't reach the advertised 45 miles/gallon level using summer gas while driving in cooler spring conditions (little use of AC, no warm up time etc.).

TreeMan67, Thank you for the updates,as we are all concerned about any electrical issue because of tscdoc's problems. When you say a flash update, does that mean they send you a flash card that you plug into the cars computer, and that will fix the locking/unlocking problem? Or does the dealership do this for you? Your mpg sounds real good. Jim

Update: finally got movement on my car. The stack console arrived yesterday and installed with no reported errors. I'm told the front end clicking noise is coming from the left side axle and they had to order replacement bolts to inspect damage. They believe it's due to a lubricating issue. They can duplicate the issue by rocking the car. I hope this is the same noise I was hearing. If all goes well, I should have my car today.
Here's hoping!!!

Treemman67: I noticed your referencing metric. Are you basing the gas amount on an Imperial gallon or US gallon? I've often read this is confusing when discussing gas mileage.
When I had my car, the best I could get was 37 mpg (based on a US gallon) in town. I haven't gone on a road trip yet but will to verify the cars repair. I'll. check long range mileage then.

A side note: any one know the Lincoln policy about loaner cars if a Lincoln breaks down during warranty?
Scott, the CSR supervisor, is from Ford and told me a loaner car is not something they are required to provide.
I was originally told Lincoln's policy was similar to Jaguar; a loaner provided of equal class.
Was I misinformed?

They changed the fiber washer on mine. The noise is less but still there. Sent the service manager an email. Haven't gotten back to me yet.

That's what my LCS told me as well. Going from what the dealer said. If I turn my car in for service, it's a Lincoln for a Lincoln. They have been providing me both times with a Lincoln. First time was MKX, the second was MKS. Great service and happy with the loaner. They provide me insights on the ride and features of both cars. It's different that just a normal test ride since we kept both cars for at least 2 days or more plus we get our MKZ all nice and detailed.

Jimflutes:
The flash update is something the dealer would do and I was told it could take a few minutes or a couple of hours to implement.

tcsdoc:
The metric to imperial conversion was made using a US gallon. Today I reached a personal record fuel economy. With 2004km on the car I went 59.4km using 34.7 EV km with 2.87 litres of gas which equals 4.8 L/100km or 49 miles/us gallon. I used this site to do the conversion (<a href="http://calculator-converter.com/l_100km_mpg_convert_mpg_to_l_per_100_km.php"><b>Calculator-Converter.com - Please Insert Your Comment Here</b></a>). I took a picture of the dash showing all the numbers but can't figure out how to attach it to the post using my iPad? This trip was from the west end of Toronto to the east end during rush hour, which is ideal for hybrid driving.

No joy. Car still isn't ready. Still hoping for Friday.

Same here. My first car was an MKV Off the lot. Only had 23 miles on it. After a couple of weeks they swapped it out for an MKZ, also off the lot. It had 3 miles on it.

Great news! I got my car today! The dealership even detailed it before they called me. The clicking sound has been fixed also. They found there was a part on the front drive axle that required lubrication. That's kind of scary but at least it's fixed now. An anecdote for you. I have been driving a regular gas MKZ/V for the last month. When I went to start my hybrid MKZ, I press the start button and nothing happened. I imediately feared the car was broken. I looked at my wife and said "oh no!" It suddenly dawned on me that this was a hybrid and pressing the start button did not engage the engine. We both got a good laugh from that. So far it's running beautifully. I really miss driving the hybrid and plan to make a trip to New Orleans to celebrate.
I really appreciate all the help and support I've received from this forum. Much better than any support received from Lincoln. I truly hope I never have to go through this again. One thing I have learned about Lincoln, the squeaky wheel gets the oil. If you have any issues concerning Lincoln customer care, call them, call them, call them!

Congrats on the car, glad you're enjoying it and hope it lasts a long time. Hope you come stop by once in a while and give us some updates. Also remember to reset the lifetime after the car breaks in around 2-3k miles.
