2013 MKX dead battery & key not working

My parents car was locked and not used for a while and battery died. Can unlock it with fob and the metal key in it also is useless. The bolt isn’t even connected to it! What can we do to unlock the car to at least open that hood to charge or change the battery?

Hi Richard. Did your parents purchase the vehicle used? That lock should have been attached, obviously.

Have you tried the trunk? Not sure if it has a keyhole.

If you can not open the doors or trunk, you may need to have a locksmith open the door for you. Or a mechanic may be able to pop the hood with the proper tools. Or a cop friend who has a "slim-jim" in their vehicle?

I am sure other members will jump in with more ideas.

Welcome to the Forum Richard.
I believe most tow truck drivers would carry a "slim-jim" or have a way of getting into a vehicle, for a fee.
