My Lincoln
2012 MKT
My liftgate extends up fine but once up it will slowly fall back down. I can apply pressure to the gate and it will maintain open position and go back down will the controls correctly. Don't know if it is a motor problem or shocks leaking down. Could cold weather cause a shock issue? Thks for any info on direction to go.

Hi RIO688. Blind Internet diagnosis: Yes, it is probably the “shocks”/struts are failing. And that will lead to the symptoms you are describing, since the strut is what holds the hatch in the open position in your particular vehicle.

And yes, cold weather will adversely affect struts which are already weakening.

I’m sure others will also jump in to help, so keep us updated and good luck.
