hello, this is my first post, but I have been racking my brain trying to find ratcheting headrests for our 2011 MKX. heres the truth, No bull, no "bend the posts, no I'll check my friends /sisters /friends edge to see if the head rest will swap. here what I had to do.
1) marry the right person, it's my wifes car and her head rest was going to be destroyed. HMMM told you this wast for the faint hearted, she told me "I can't watch, just do it"... I needed her later and she was a trooper!!!
2) purchase a new headrest- ford PN/ ---- CT4Z78611A08A -- ebay about 120.00$, you get the mechanism and a foam cover, not very sexy
3) remove the donor headrest... it pulls out, you have to push IN the buttons on both headrest post sleeves and lift up, and don't forget to lay the seat back.
LINCON REALLY WENT CHEAP HERE!!!! THE HEAD REST IS FOAM FILLED the foam is stuck to every thing. AND THE COVER CANNOT BE SLID OFF. THANKS LINCOLN. you saved a few bucks but have made an enemy for life.
4) pull the headrest bottom seam apart and start digging. be gentle near the headrest cover , it has a foam backing., you dig and dig and dig, pulling little pieces out and breaking apart the hard foam post retainer and posts. took me about 45 mins to an hour to clean out the head rest
5) Youtube has some nice videos on how to install headrest covers, lets just say it involves a walmart bag and a vacuum cleaner to shrink the new headrest foam.,
6) It took both of us about 15 minutes of fighting and we finally had to cut the bottom seam wider to fit the old cover over the new head rest.
7) we also used a little PAM cooking oil on the bag to get the head rest to slip on easier. LOL it still took both of us pushing against each other to get the cover over the headrest
8) the bottom isn't pretty but you can cut the leather to fit the posts and fold everything neatly.
INSTALL YOUR NEW MOVABLE HEADREST.
