Third brake light went out, any information or guidance on how to DIY? Called dealership, said 300 to 400 to replace. Part is $97 OEM, so the rest is labor. Cannot find any guidance online. Any help or tips would be appreciated. Thank you

Doesn't seem that hard, here are some pics.
Manual says to remove the rear seat backrest, but still doesn't seem hard.
However, you see where the labor is?

Also, I have saved money in the past by purchasing the correct bulb at Best Buy for $1 and soldering it in. I am no expert on LED lights, however there are plenty of people on the LED forums that are.

Back in the day, Ford used an LED setup for the third brake light on the 2nd Gen Explorer that was prone to fail at a $350 a pop including the ballast. The hot ticket was to remove everything in the shell and replace with a conventional 12 volt bulb. Not as bright, but passed inspection. 1573225288337-297229981.jpg15732255129911093367018.jpg1573225578972-1007840377.jpg

I meant Fry's Electronics, not Best Buy, is the place that has a good selection of bulbs and electronic parts for the DIY'er
