My Lincoln
2007 mxz
my son has a 2007 Lincoln mkz. when we bought the car one of the headlights was not working. i thought no problem the bulb is toast. after spending $ 110 on a HID bulb it still wouldn't work. after some looking around i changed out the ballast. this fixed the problem. after a year the other side had a light not working. same thing we changed the ballast and all good. we did notice that the rubber cover on the back of the light kept falling off. i have the car in the shop for an air conditioning problem and they noticed the drivers side headlight is out. after some testing they tell me that there is a short in the headlight assembly from water and debris getting in there and i need to change out the entire assembly. I'm currently trying to find a new or used light assembly. it looks like they made 2 styles of light units. my type is HID and the other is halogen. i am not able to find much at all in HID. is it possible to change things over to halogen if that is the only parts i can find? any other thoughts id be glad to hear them

Check eBay

There are at least a half dozen of used ones (Drivers side)

And this new one

Conversion is possible.

I believe there are or is a seal to keep out debris. On every bulb change treating or conditioning the seal would be recommended.
And that "maintenance" suggestion would apply to a lot of things that are rubber, plastic, vinyl or leather. Especially things that are exterior and get exposed to the elements.

thanks for the reply. i will look at the options you have given

Thanks for the last reply . My issue is that I live in Canada and from the info I have been given most options are in the USA. This makes a headlight assembly that is listed for $500 about $680. I would spend that kinda money if I knew it would fix my problem. Every part on these HID lights is expensive. Arts are hard to find for the HID but the halogen are easy to get and prices are reasonable. I did ask briefly about converting from HID to halogen but I’d like to hear some details.do I need to buy some kind of adapter for the wiring? Is it plug and play? Do I need to buy new halogen lense assembly’s? Any help would be great.

I can not help you.

I am a stock kind of guy. (for the most part) If it was made that way, I repair it to that standard. I have dealt with too many mods that got ugly.
In my experience mods usually cost more than the way the vehicle was built.

Has HID to Halogen been done? I believe that is true. You are posting in the MKZ forum which may be rather limiting. That question may apply for many more models

Is it plug and play? NO! It is not. It is a process and I believe I have read on this website about someone that attempted that.
Have no clue as to where that thread is or which vehicle it was for. Pretty sure it was not an MKZ

Sorry I can not offer you more than that.

The other way to approach this would be to get a EVTM or a factory wiring diagram.
That will show both options and how they are wired differently from the factory.

Thanks for getting back to me. Looks like this might get costly either way. Have a good day. I’ve got some thinking to do
