2005 Town Car signature speaker upgrades (4)

Sweet, it worked. The bottom picture is "daytime" the middle one is with the headlights turned on (changed the lighting on the radio to green to match the rest of the dash. The top picture is with the face detached. Here is another picture to let you see the radio from afar a little better.

That is interesting...I thought all of them came with a factory sub, but I guess I was wrong! Which trim Town Car do you have? If you plan to add 12s then yea no need to worry about the factory one.

I have the JVC - 61BT receiver in the Town Car. It looks good, has bluetooth, usb inputs, and most importantly (for me) detachable face which was my main reason for choosing that one. I [attempted] to upload a picture, let's see if it works, lol. View attachment 3513
I have the Signature series. But Nice man, did you do it yourself or shop put it in. Now that you mention it i want a detachable one to, my in-law want to sell me a nice one for 300 but i don't know if it detaches. I might pass on it if i can find one that detaches for a good price.

BTW i see we got our weight up on uploading these pics lol.

And i see that your screen is a 6.1 and it's in there with no more room look like. My father in-law kenwood that he has have a 7' screen, do u think that'll be a problem getting in.

Hey, I feel officially part of the forum now that I can upload pics, lol. Apparently I was doing exactly what you were doing and uploading multiple pics (I guess). Either way, I had a shop do the install, it is not hard per se, just time consuming, and I got a good deal on that and tinting the windows at the same time. I also wanted to make sure they bypassed the E-brake so I could watch video while driving.

I definitely needed a detatchable face. I work in Downtown Atlanta and my last double din (DD), a nice expensive one might I add, was stolen out of my Super Duty while parked in one of the parking garages down here, while my alarm was going off and all. Like the Pick-up, The Town Car is a fairly easy vehicle to get into if you know what you are doing, So a detachable model is the only way I can get through the workday without worrying about my radio missing when I return. Lot of Crown Vic/Grand Mark owners that like those DDs. Having said that, apparently, detachable face feature is not available on most of the affordable DDs. Most of them with that feature run into the $1000s and I definitely did not want to spend that kind of money. While the JVC is not my first choice, it was necessary. Really a shame I tell ya.

The one your kin is offering you is probably a good deal. If you park in an area where someone may try to steal it...I would def think twice!

O yes, it will fit with no issue. As long as its double din sized. I like the 7" screen (I had one before, the one that was stolen) but I wanted a volume knob this time around, lol. So I sacrificed a little. So with the 7" it will not have a volume knob or other buttons on the side, like mine has...it will be all screen!

Are talking about smaller speakers in the rear, smaller than 5x7 or 6x9? Putting in wood to adapt to the holes does sound good to but i think putting double sided tape is much easier and less headache.

like i used round speakers that happened to line up with the original holes and used 2 half moon shaped pieces of wood like the stuff found on the back of a walmart entertainment center to cover the space on ither side of the new round speaker. 6x9 are only good for making muddy sounding bass and distortion. round speakers sound so much better.

I have never had a problem with 6x9s producing muddy bass/distortion unless they are overdriven or cheap, but that's with any sized speaker. I generally find that issue amongst folks that try to use 6x9s as a substitute for having a subwoofer which of course is a bad idea.

I second that, and you hit the nail right on the head when you say some folks want to use it as a sub. When i use mine, i take all the bass completely out.

Shoot, I say go for the one for $300 then!!

For what it's worth at this late stage, I replaced the door speakers and back shelf speakers in my 05 Town Car yesterday. Both were 6x8, Ford part number XW7F-18808-AB. Pioneer TS-A6885R 6x8 speakers fit perfectly and were stamped with something like "Made for Ford, Mazda and Nissan".

o OK. i went with Infinity speakers since I took my infinity 6x9's out one of my pretty previous cars. I should actually recevie my infinity 6x8's today for the door speakers, soon as i get them, i'm popping them in.

How do you like the sound compared to stock?

I finally installed my 6x8's in today and man the sound is sooo crazy, and that's with the stock radio, Can't wait till i put my other radio in.

The only problem i have is that, when i turn the volume to max the sounds cuts out, radio still on. The only way to get sound again is to turn the car off, and back on again. I'm pretty sure i wired them correctly. Correct me if i'm wrong, lookining at the configuration i have below, that order is correct right. Those were the only wires i had to connect to the speaker. Also, is there such thing that the radio is so weak that it can't keep them on all the way turned up, i have some high quality speakers so i hope that's the problem, and i just need to put the other radio in.
