I'm wanting to upgarde the speakers in my car and unable to determine what sizes do i need. From what i can tell I have two in the front doors and two in the back shelf. I've read that in the front could be 5.25 or 5x7 and 6x8 or 6x9 in the rear, let me know what you guys think. I have some 6x9's but if it's true that the rear is 6x8 then i'll have to cut or make it fit if possible.

I am looking to do the same to mine soon. I believe the back deck are 6x8s and it will take some modifications in order to fit 6x9s (which I also want to do).

The doors I believe are 5 x7/6x8s as you said.

Roger that, So what does 5x7/6x8 mean, does it mean i can put 6x8's in the door also or what, if so i would prefer 6x8 vice 5x7's.

That is correct....They should fit in the same openings and holes with no modification!

Got it, 6x8 it is yes, thanks i appreciate your help. I also just popped 6x9's in the rear, when i took the old speakers out they were 5x7, i must be have the super old 2005 signature, lol.

when you put in the 6x9's to test fit them did you see any modding that would be needed? im asking because i have a extra set id like to put in to replace the OEM

I am wondering that too...any mods for the 6x9s in the back?

I didn't have to do any mods, You can if you want but i really don't see the need to, everything fits back in place as far as the back panel. The only thing i may do is drill new holes in the speaker to stay in place because the holes don't match up. Now that i'm thinking about it i'll probably use double sided 3M tape, that'll do the trick. I'll post some pics on here if i can on the how it looks with the 6x9's installed. I've been having trouble posting pics, i don't know why. But let me know what you think.

Well the front speakers are 5x7, but they say you can do 6x8 and it'll bolt right in, i'll probably order some at the end of the month.

Those pics would be very helpful. Honestly, I cannot upload a picture on here to save my life...if you get it, let me know about that as well. How do the 6x9s sound?

I see i'm not the only one who've had problems uploading pics on here. On the other hand they sound nice the only thing is, is that, I still have the factory radio in so it's not doing the 6x9's no justice. I have little bass in them because i think the radio don't have enough power to push them. I also added two additional tweeters to the system as well, niccccce, lol.

Side note: For anyone planning on doing the same thing in the future, be sure to take the two blk plastic fasteners out first located directly behind the rear pass and driverside seats, it'll make you life alot easier, trust me. The easiest way i found to do it is by dropping the panel in the trunk and hitting it up with a hammer. Before i found that out, i had already rub the skin off my hand by hitting the top of the car trying to pull the fastener out up top. Once you get those fasteners out, if fairly easy.

I hope you're able to see the pics.

Yes i did it ^^^with the pics above, GeneLaw1 very easy. I just went to the "Go advance" tab below the comment box and added individually instead of all at once which i tried and didn't work. Hope this helps. Next project is the front speakers.

Also, pics 1 and 5 is how it looks even though the 6x9's sticks out about 2 inches from the surface of the panel.

Very nice! Good job on uploading pics as well, lol. How is the sound?

Sound is awesome but as i mentioned, the radio is not powerful enough to push the 6x9's, I can barely hear the bass out of it because i still have the factory radio, i'm pretty sure it's going to sound 100% better once i change it out.

Ah, yes the factory radio definitely has to come out. I have changed mine and it makes a night/day difference in the sound even with my stock speakers.

Are you leaving the factory sub in place?

Unfortunately I must have the first original 05 Town Car lol, because everyone said there cars have the 6x8/9 in the rear and mine had 5x7's without the sub, i see the space for it but i don't know if I want to add one. I'm also going to add to 12' subs back there so i'm not going to worry about it.

So what kind of radio do you have in now?

i put smaller speakers in mine and made some wood plates to adapt them to the original holes

Are talking about smaller speakers in the rear, smaller than 5x7 or 6x9? Putting in wood to adapt to the holes does sound good to but i think putting double sided tape is much easier and less headache.

That is interesting...I thought all of them came with a factory sub, but I guess I was wrong! Which trim Town Car do you have? If you plan to add 12s then yea no need to worry about the factory one.

I have the JVC - 61BT receiver in the Town Car. It looks good, has bluetooth, usb inputs, and most importantly (for me) detachable face which was my main reason for choosing that one. I [attempted] to upload a picture, let's see if it works, lol. PhotoGrid_1378828428014.webp
