I am looking to pick up a 2000 Lincoln Town car this weekend. The guy says he dont know how to disable the anti theft on it. He says get that disabled an it will run an drive. How do you go about disabling the anti theft?

Probably means he does not have the key programmed to the vehicle, or it's stolen.....

well its on facebook marketplace an it is listed to contact young girl that has it looks to be in her 20's so probably key not programmed & dont know how to fix it. If that is the problem how do you fix it?

I would suggest to the thread starter that they will need to go to their Ford/Lincoln Dealer and have the old keys "erased" from the car's computer and two new correctly cut keys added in. Or, he can go to an independent mechanic or locksmith and have the same thing done. Not cheap or "simple," but doable.

I would also suggest checking everything else on the car since if you can't start it, you can't tell what condition the drive-line is in. And you want the selling price discounted accordingly. If the seller really wanted top dollar, then they would have either not lost all the keys or taken the car into the dealership to have the keys replaced.

I think that IF you do not have the ' spare ' key for the dealer to use... then they have to reprogram the steering column and make you two new keys... that happened to me... way too much money but they have you over a barrel.

Pretty much, except it's the Powertrain Control Module they reprogram, not the steering column. And, minus the tow, it's just as cheap or expensive whether you have the "chip" key or not, provided you have a correctly cut key at all.

"No key, no clue" can get more expensive if they end up replacing all the cylinders to "make sure." However, a good locksmith can disassemble one of the cylinders and (if they are all the same) cut the physical part of the key for the entire car.

Good luck.
